PENNSTATE vs RENSSELAER, PURDUE, CALPOLY, UC DAVIS, UC SANTA BARBARA

Got In Computer Science To These School. Please Rank The Following Assuming Location And Cost Are Not An Issue. Academics And Prospects (employer And Graduate School) Are More Important.

Calpoly San Luis Obispo
Rensselaer
Penn State Univ Park
Purdue
Uc Davis
Uc Santa Barbara

Well I goto Penn State for Comp Sci and the program seems good over here (I would say I def. am biased tho) I am in research and I have an internship as a freshman, so the opportunities are here.

I also know that Rensselaer has a rep. CS program. As for the others I am unsure.

Which State are u from if you dont mind me asking, Id probably go with the cheapest option as all schools listed are good in engineering in general.

Ch, which do you think is better,

Regular PSU comp science
or
Honors OSu comp science(note: schreyer> osu honors program)?

What do you think of the comp science facilities at psu?
Are the classrooms in good state?

Well for some of your classes youll be in IST which is one of the newest buildings at PSU and has GREAT facilities. The others are just regular computer labs which are also good, just IST is a pretty cool building :) (it also houses the Computer Science Dept.) Im not sure how well regarded OSU honors is so I cant really comment on it, all i know is honors at state schools does give you perks. I believe that as long as you work hard at either school youll do jus find with grad. school or in the job market (whichever you choose).

The facilites are fine over here and overall I'm still luving my choice to come to PSU for CS (last year I had it narrowed it down to Penn State and Case Western).

I would say cheapest is probably the way you wan choose (that and how much you like the atmospheres of the schools)

Also have you visited each school?

I am at psu right know ( I should probably go by the its building sometime
: D).

Osu will be cheaper and having the honors is a plus, even if the program isn't that competitive( all you need is a 3.5 gpa to get in).

I have not visited ohio, but plan to do so. Too bad my only option is taking the bus. Are you a compt science major? Do you have some skills? Can you build websites?

Frasi, all you have been doing is complain about the facilities at Penn State and now you are considering computer science and you haven't even seen the IST building?
I think you are fooling with us.

yes Im a Comp Sci Major. I can make websites and things like that (and currently do) but mainly becuz of what I did before college (IST majors are more geared towards the web and its backbone.)

tell you what, I will go to the IST building this week.

Ch, do you have any website up right now? Can you post the url?

What sorts of practical stuff do you learn as a comp science major? Can you really create programs or just the basic stuff?

And how would you use a code? Do you write codes?

Well I can create programs if I needed I suppose. But as for now we just do programming for console applications (in c++) dats jus wit da first 2 comp sci classes. Next Semester Im taking more CSE major classes so Ill be doing stuff like Programming web app. (JAVA)

You can see the application I developed and implemented at <a href="https://php.scripts.psu.edu/webaccess/dept/spacegrant/%5B/url%5D">https://php.scripts.psu.edu/webaccess/dept/spacegrant/</a></p>

I also make websites...but I havent had time to do any (including my portfolio) really since ive been up here.
