Basically, it’s a facebook for freshmen. It allows you to talk to roommates, hallmates, GA’s, House Deans, staff, etc. I found it very helpful last year. You can post pictures and create profiles.

I second krtrumpet's endorsement. Pennster is awesome. Definitely use it. However, please don't go overboard... don't make it your duty to live on the message boards and make every other reply by you. It backfires, trust me... we saw it happen with some of our classmates, who probably will never get past the reputation they earned through Pennster....

hahaha yeah there we're like three or four people who constantly posted...i actually meet one during the year and everyone was like hey you're that annoying kid from pennster. everyone though he was a total tool...

haha, I may have posted a bit excessivly on pennster, and people actually did remember that which was a little embarrising, but hey, I had an excuse! (I worked at a computer all day with next to NOTHING to do)

But I do endorse Pennster whole heartedly.. and if you can, try to organize something with people in your area. I organized/went to one in NYC and met people i'm still friends with now.. and even if you don't stay friends with anyone you meet, knowing 10 or so people before school even starts is awesome.

I am somewhat of a regular myself, although it is QUITE a different environment than I expect Pennster to be, what with maybe 10 regulars vs. a couple hundred.

thinkjose1: I posted on pennster probably a message per day...I post a lot more frequently on here though. the people that got the bad reps were those that posted like 30+ messages a day...

Just don't obsessively post on Pennster, that's all we're saying. Post enough that you feel involved... it's fun when you meet people you recognize from Pennster and when they recognize you from Pennster.

Also, make sure to post on your hall message board right away. Nobody posted on ours until almost mid-July, and then I finally sucked it up and did it... but our Hall thread became probably my favorite thread, since you were interacting with the people who'd be living right next door to you. We talked about the conversations we had on our hall board all year long; a lot of funny stuff was said on it.

Isn't it a fair assumption that "the Vlad" is unrecognized by non-wharton people...but in any case, people's privacy will be respected. My apologies to Vlad if he is reading this....it shall not be repeated.
