How many of you are going to attend NYIT? (for the BS/DO program)

ha..knw most people here wouldnt be going to NYIT..but just one thing: Why is DO considered inferior to MD? (arent they practically the same thing?)

DO is not a real doctor.

I keed, I keed.

the only reason some people think it's inferior is that the DO schools dont require as high of a mcat score. But yes, regardless of a DO or MD, you are still a physician and DO's are able to do allopathic residencies.

and after hearing from many physicians, they claim your residency is more important that the med school you graduated from- not sure how truthful this statement is.

in theory, DOs and MDs should be viewed equally, but that's not really the way it works. It tends to be more difficult to match into competitive residencies (especially allo residencies) as a DO. Many people choose to apply several cycles to allopathic schools before resorting to an osteopathic school. Of course, if you're a fan of the whole holistic medicine thing, and really want to become a DO, then go for it... just realize that the stigma will be there (however stupid it may be).

well as long as you are not dreaming to get in cornell surgical residency, you should be fine with a DO ;) but in any case, good luck in your decision.
