Hi! I was wondering if the people at College Confindential are usually the smarter ones of the bunch? My stats seem beyond lower than other users (and its worse because they complain that SAT 1800-2000 is low.) I feel like I can't get into any college (Rutgers:NB.) because of such comparison.

from my experience, there are three classes of people on cc, 1. those that put you down and make you feel terrible. 2. the ******bags. and 3. those who encourage.

Personally I don’t think I’m that smart, though my friends tend to tell me I am (I have no idea if that is them being nice or the truth). I am apart of that group would be unhappy with an 1800 (if that was my score), though that is because of specific colleges I am looking at. Overall the people on CC seem to be smarter people, let’s face what percent of a high school class can realistically look at ivies (maybe 2-3 percent), but here it is probably 60-70 percent.

OK, I kind of feel a little better to know that users on CC are generally the smarter ones. I thought I would have a 1% chance of getting into A regular university like Rutgers which isnt a good thought.

I don’t think an SAT score determines how smart you really are. Just how well you take a test.

ohtacos:

There is no doubt that there are some superhuman kids on CC.

Don’t let that intimidate you.

You can still get into a good school.

You don’t have to be the first guy they take; you can be number 5000 and still get in.

Further, many of the kids who are top students now may not become successful in their working life, while many kids of only moderate intelligence will become successful. Academics aren’t everything.

All my high school friends went to Ivy League schools, but the one who became a multi-million went to SUNY Cortland. He had great people skills.

If you post messages in the proper categories, like under Rutgers, for example, you will get advice tailored to your situation. And find people in the same boat as you.

The posts about getting into Harvard and Stanford are not relevant to you, so ignore them.

If you provide your stats, a lot of people on CC will be happy to tell you where they think you stand, and won’t care that you don’t have a 2390 SAT score.

I myself only had a 1200 SAT score (the equivalent of 1800 today, because there was no writing section back then, and I wound up graduating from a number of big name schools (undergraduate and graduate). Again, I probably wasn’t the first guy on their acceptance list, but I guess I was 4,999, and still got in.

Thanks for the info!

Well, I plan on retaking the SAT in October. On the May SAT, I received a 1450 altogether. The reason why I may have did so poorly was because I omitted over 20+ questions. Im hoping that I will do better this time. Im aiming to attend Rutgers NB

ohtacos:

My son increased his score 100 points, the second time, with zero studying.
He too was unable to finish the entire exam the first time.

Mere familiarity with the exam will help you.

However, getting into Rutgers is not going to be easy in any case, even if you got your SAT up to an 1800.

It is a relative financial bargain, and there are a lot of super top kids who go to Rutgers, because they can’t afford a private school.

So I would look at some “lesser” schools as well, which I am sure you are doing.

If you are serious about getting into Rutgers, than do a lot of SAT prep work.

Actually! I always had a few minutes to spare at the end of each section so it wasnt a time issue but more of the fear of guessing incorrectly.

My GPA is fairly decent since I had A’s and B’s throughout highschool and a C in my junior year. I took some Honor classes and I plan on taking two APs this upcoming year. I’m just nervous about my SAT scores and the supplement essay.

Well, actually, I havent been looking at lesser schools. I dont know of any in NJ (where I would receive instate.) I was looking at SUNY Buffalo which is around the same acceptance rate range but besides that no.

Thanks for helping!
