Pepperdine or University of Missouri for journalism?

I was accepted to both schools for journalism, and I am so unsure as to which school i should attend. I know that Mizzou has the better journ program, but I live in California so it would be nice to stay here at Pepperdine....Also, if I went to Pepperdine I'd have to take out between $5,000-10,000 MORE in loans than if i went to Mizzou. What do you guys think? And does Pepp even have a good journ program? Thanks!

I’m a current journalism student at Pepperdine. To be honest, I don’t know much about how Pepperdine’s journalism program compares to those at other schools, but I’ve been happy with my classes.

My freshman year I was invited to move in a few days before the official New Student Orientation started, so I could meet the other journalism students (both other freshman, and returning), and have the opprotunity to start getting involved with The Graphic. They were starting to put together the first issue for the year, and assigned stories to any freshman who wanted to write.

I’m still not very involved with The Graphic, but that’s because I just haven’t made the effort. I have had some stories published that I wrote for my journalism classes. Usually the final articles that we turn in for assignments are then passed on to The Graphic staff, and they’ll choose which ones they’d like to print.

If you have more specific questions about the program, feel free to ask and I’ll answer the best I can.

I love the scenery at pepperdine. I was wondering if there is a good curriculum and I am very interested about what you learn about. I don’t know anyone who has gone there so I need the insite from you. How many hours do you learn a day? Can I get a tennis scholarship if I play good? What do you learn about??? I couldn’t find the journalist school online. I only saw the 5 schools and I didn’t see journalism written there.

Thanks for answering, G

Ksp791 - As a journalism major at Pepperdine, I recommend taking the better opportunity at Mizzou. Pepperdine is a great school if you are looking for a certain kind of community (strong academics, Christian mission, small class size), but Mizzou hands down is known for one of the best journalism programs in the nation.
