Hey guys,

I need to able to get to LA on weekdays on a regular basis (for screenwriting) and was wondering how the travel is from Malibu to LA. How long does it take? How's traffic? Is there public transportation? Cause idk if i'm gonna bring a car on campus

Thanks!

It really isn’t that bad if you don’t go during rush hour. If you’re leaving from Pepperdine at around 6:50 you should have like no traffic all the way through. The freeways get kinda packed around downtown from like 7:30-9:30 so you should try to leave early enough that you don’t get caught up in that. You will need a car to commute though. Unless you wanna take the 534 from Malibu to Santa Monica and then the 733 downtown – which is a huge waste of time if you’re doing it daily.

Where in LA are you going? It is about a 20 car drive (with no PCH traffic) to Santa Monica and by bus it will take a longer. Getting around LA is difficult enough without a car and getting there from Malibu is even harder

I work in downtown LA 2 days a week. The morning commute can be brutal. PCH backs up at the PCH Topanga Canyon Road intersection. The 10 can also get pretty bad, but typically keeps moving. To get to downtown LA by 9, you have to leave pep around 7:45. When it rains, it may take you until 9:30 or 10:00 to reach downtown.

When schools are cancelled in LA (LAUSD), you can get downtown in about 40 minutes.

thanks andylaws that completely answered my Q
