How does your school do GPA?

My school grades it where a 97 to a 100 is a 4.0 and for each point below a 97 it is .1 down, so a 90 is a 3.3 and a 85 is a 2.8. This is crazy, but the school does not actually calculate the GPA on our transcripts. We also don't weight classes, and I was on the committee that took it to the school board to change that. They turned it down on the basis of kids with lesser abilities feeling put down.

My current school has numbers too. We get a certain amount of points out of certain amount. We can calculate the percentages though. We don’t even get semester grades, we get a year grade. I’m going to ask my counselor if he can print off both of my semester grades though so that I can give them to colleges.

Wait… So that’s how grades out of 100 work? Dude, THAT’S CRAZY.

I’m the kid that gets like 91 in most of his classes. Lol. A 91 and 100 both count the same at our school, so there’s no motivation to score higher. Unless it turns out that colleges do care about the difference between an A and an A-, in which case, I’m screwed and will have to exile myself to the most remote waters off the coast of Singapore.

… They really don’t care, right?

Colleges will usually calculate your grades in accordance with their grading system. I thought straight 90’s was a 3.7. Someone else will have to confirm that though.

98-100 4.0
96-97.9 3.9
94-95.9 3.8
92-93.9 3.7
90-91.9 3.6
89-89.9 3.5
and every percent down from there drops .1
honors classes weighted 1.1, ap classes 1.2 (multiply that by # out of 4.0)

it makes it pretty competitive in the A-range, but it’s nice that going down to a B isn’t a massive plummet.

^
WOAH.

How the heck do people get 4.0 unweighted GPAs?.. They need to have straight A+s?..

CRAZY!

Is that scale correct?

haha we just need a minimum of 90 percent in each class for a 4.0 uw…

I thought that you only needed a 90 too lol

nobody has a 4.0 uw. i am currently ranked #1 (lol) and have a 3.89 uw.

*that is just the scale at my school, i am sure most colleges have a much different one.

Wait, wait, so will colleges care about the different levels of an A?

Man, now I’m worried again… I can’t find a clear answer.

If it says A and not A- on your report card, I think that will still count as a 4.0. If it says A-, that might be a 3.7. Again, I’m in need of confirmation.

Congratulations on being number 1 though!:)

Here it’s:
A+/A: 4.0
A-: 3.7
B+: 3.5
B: 3.3
B-: 3.0
C+: 2.7
C: 2.5
C-: 2.0
D+: 1.7
D: 1.5
D-: 1.0
F: 0.0

And you add one point for Honors/AP classes up until the D+ mark.

“Wait… So that’s how grades out of 100 work? Dude, THAT’S CRAZY.”

Not in my school lol. It’s out of a 100 but we get 5 points for honors courses and 10 for AP. However, there’s no weighted or unweighted GPA.

E.g.
I got an 86 and an 89 this marking period.
It’s technically a 91 and 94.

(P.S. My freshmen year GPA was 95! :D)

^
What the heck? 10 GPA points for AP?..

That’s super inflated…

mine is out of 100.
2.5 for honors.
5 for AP

My county has the standard 90-100 = A = 4.0, 80-89 = B = 3.0, etc. 1 point for AP, .5 for honors. No pluses or minuses…some of your grading systems are crazy (to me at least)!

“They turned it down on the basis of kids with lesser abilities feeling put down.”

Yes, unfortunately, this is where political correctness is bringing society. Don’t deny a man his steak just because a baby can’t chew it.

…AP…H…CP…LP
a…5.0 …4.5 …4.0 …3.5
a-…4.7 …4.2 …3.7 …3.2
b+…4.3 …3.8 …3.3 …2.8
b…4.0 …3.5 …3.0 …2.5
b-…3.7 …3.2 …2.7 …2.2
c+…3.3 …2.8 …2.3 …1.8
c…3.0 …2.5 …2.0 …1.5
c-…2.7 …2.2 …1.7 …1.2
d+…2.3 …1.8 …1.3 …0.8
d…2 …1.5 …1 …0.5
d-…1.7 …1.2 …0.7 …0.2

90-100=A
89-80=B
79-70=C
69-60=D
59-=F

The teachers in my schools don’t really add the “+ or -”. So if it’s a 89 or an 80, you still receive a regular “B”. AP’s gets an extra point and honors get an extra .5 if your grade is a “D” or above. My friend has a 4.0 unweighted and she makes regular straight “A’s”.

You know what though, this doesn’t really matter anyway, because if you’re applying to a school in the US, chances are that they would take your grades and re-calculate them again anyways. Same thing for many scholarships.
