perfect score (2400)

It will look bad if you have 2300+ and retake because college's see that as desperation.

Stop basing everything you do in your life on what some admissions board will think of it. If you want to go for the 2400 and think you can do it, then go for it. Depending on where you live, you could be in the newspaper, on TV, etc!

I guess I'm just worried that, come October and having studied months on end, and having stressed out, and having given up the chance to retake a 760 SAT II ... i'd do worse. I don't know ... can I live with a near-perfect SAT score?

I'm being totally serious too, and I know it sounds sad. I'm seriously considering retaking, and in ways, I know I shouldn't, heaven forbid my score drops ...

don't retake - are you insane??

why would colleges think highly of you for taking the test a zillion times, even if you do eventually get a combined 2400? they want to see results that come the most naturally, preferably in as few sittings as possible, as the SAT is supposed to just measure your aptitude. taking it twice seems to be the general rule of thumb. SAT's will only get your foot in the door at top schools and that's about where it stops, there are WAY more worthwhile things to pursue..

"You know what, JQ? You're right, I post lies in online forums so that perfect strangers will like me."

I find it ironic that right after the scores are released, we have a few people say they got 2400s and have like one post in this forum. I mean, forgive me for my questioning. But doesn't it seem strange that some people come to this forum and post their perfect score and never come back? Oh wait, you joined today you wouldn't know that ;)

This probably sounds more insane, but ... I don't even know if it's for the colleges anymore. What if, by some crazy inclination, I just really want a perfect score?

... Am I really the only one to feel this way? I know I'm not alone ... Anyone else with ... a 2300+ ... cougha 2350+ ... and higher ... who is thinking of retaking? Overachievers? Perfectionists?

... Anyone who understands?

no .

i don't either. go get diagnosed for OCD and hire a mental therapist. i'm serious too.

lavenderdream, i understand haha. i got a 740 in math and am baffled+annoyed that i didn't get a perfect score, especially because as i was taking it i really thought i did.

nevertheless, it would be best to let go. who cares what numbers say about you anyway

i agree with sarorah. BTW wrathofgod64: how did you post "no ." without using 10 characters? that's like 4 characters. do you have a special program on your computer that lets you do that? if you do, can you burn me a copy? thanks!

Grad'06, i posted no and after like 8 spaces i put a period.

You guys (everyone except lavender) are the obsessive ones! She wants the glory of having a perfect score on one of the most famous tests ever, and you guys are discouraging her because some adcom could possibly have a slightly negative view of her. I say, go for it! Like all of you are saying, at the level of admissions at which you guys are speaking, the number of times she took the test isnt going to make a difference!

no .

"i'm asian, so i'm obligated (although I don't know why) to go for it. race is such a pain in the ***, it makes you do things you don't want to do."

Sorry, nothing ever obligates you except yourself. Don't try to use your race to mask the fact that you are either competitive/ambitious/whatever else so you want a very high score.

do what you want, not what the admissions supposedly want....after all, admissions won't be a problem for you anyways. they don't rule your life, you do. just know you could go down as well.

Quote: Kenneyn: "There is a tremendous amount of luck required in getting a 2400. I walked out of the test expecting to get somewhere around a 2200, at best. I wound up with a perfect score, but I don't think it's appropriate for me to claim all the credit, or even the majority."

What a coincidence! I walked in expecting a 2200. Although, I also walked out with a 2200.

Now, I got a 800 on the Critical Reading, and I hear this looks real good. My lowest score was a 670 on Math, and I hear that admissions persons don't like to see a big difference between verbal and math scores. So, I'm considering retaking the math section, if financially possible.

i understand that strange personal reason for wanting to be perfect and get a 2400. i wanted in teh 2300s so bad and i can usually do much better than i did do on the writing for the june test.. but i did get a 790 M and 740 CR . CR is usually my worst section and im happy with those scores and dont want to jeopardize gettign a lower score on another test. however, i got a 710 on W and can usually expect higher 700s. should i retake? i mean, i hear admissions wont really look that much into your writing score yet because its new... and this is my first time taking the SAT... ugghakjh what should i do?
