Personal Cell Phone

I have read posts about cadet cell phones, but am somewhat confused. I will be a new cadet. I currently have a Cingular Cell phone. Will I be able to use my existing, personal cell phone after Beast? If we are issued cell phones, are we charged for the phones? Even if we are issued a phone, can we still keep and use our existing cell phone?

Yes, you can keep your cell phone and use it after Beast. I'm assuming, if you're issued cell phones, yes, you will pay for the charges. If you're issued a phone, you can still use your personal phone.

Weigh this against the fact that they've been talking about issuing cell phones to the Corps for several years now.

Are they issuing cell phones? I haven't heard that. Can you bring your cell phone with you and then have them take it away and get it back after Beast?

As I said, they've been talking about it for years. I'm graduating in five days, and they told my class we might get cellphones...when we were plebes.

If you bring your phone to Beast, leave it in your bag when you get to sift through your stuff. DO NOT TAKE IT UP TO YOUR ROOM. If you miss this, at some point, turn it over to your squad leader. You'll either be given a chance to take it down to your baggage, or get it back at the end of the summer.

If you bring your cellphone, don't forget the charger.

YES - you can use your cellphone after Beast. According to my soon to be Yuk son, there has been NO, absolutely NO, discussion that plebes or anyone else will be issued cellphones. Any service provider will work at West Point.

By the way - I just moved my whole family - five cellphones to the Verizon Family share plan - primary phone is 80 per month, additional lines are all 10 per month - for 1400 shared minutes. Ends up being 24 per month for 280 minutes of anytime minutes.

I've heard mixed reviews about which company has the best service. I'm locked into a two year contract with Nextel (one year has passed), so we'll have to continue with Nextel until next summer. I have heard that Cingular (Singular, not sure how to spell it), had the best reception. Does anybody have any other advise?

We have T-Mobile and it works in some spots.

nextel merged with sprint making it the largest network!

i thought cingulars merge with att&t made it bigger
