So what's the scoop? Are they allowed, and if so, what are the best service providers for the academy area?

I live near West Point and work in the area. It is very rocky around the area and there are pockets in the area with terrible reception. Verizon seems to work well in the immediate area of the main grounds but the best of services will drop calls in the area due to the terrain.

I was there this past summer for IAW...now SLS...and I have a cingular phone...I got great reception in the cadet area.

My daughter was there for IAW and her Cingular service didn't work. Since you can't have cell phones during Beast, you can probably use that time to learn which service works best before signing up.

during IAW I tried using my cell (verison) didn't work too well in the dorms, but worked really well right in them iddle of the court yard, haha so probably not the best idea to be using your cell phone as a plebe in the middle of the ocurt year during bct

ATT(now cingular) did not work in the dorms at IAW last summer---daughter seemed to get half way decent reception in the courtyard(?)

I live on West Point and really there is no excellent choice for service. My family has TMobile and we get reception here and there. For the most part as long as you are not inside a building, the reception is ok but not the greatest. I haven't heard anyone say that their phone works consistently on post yet.

Check the list of things to bring to Beast. I don't believe cell phones are on the list. I believe after A-Day you will be allowed to have one.
