Personal Essay- How to GET STARTED??

hey,
i am trying to get started with my peronal essay but i dont know how. i tried brainstorming but it jst doesnt work.

i dont have anyone with disease in my family, or anybdy's quotation or any THAT KINDA life changing experience.

im am an international student who jst came to USA 4/5 months ago. i am a prospective accounting/economics major. i jst cant get anything to start with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so anybdy's suggestion will be highly appreciated!!!!

Wasn't moving to the US a life changing experience for you? Talk about the differences between where you came from and the US.

I don't think it has to something big; personally, I'd rather have nothing to write about than have someone in my family sick, but anyway.

Just write about what's important to you, let yourself shine through and you'll do fine.

College essays don't have to be about something big - you can pick a seemingly pointless event in your life and write about that - as long as you manage to convey your personality to the reader.

A good way to start would be to pick an aspect of your personality which you would like to expound on in your essay. Are you adaptable? A leader? Hardworking? Pick a quality then match it with some event in your life.

You're making the mistake of assuming you need a "big event" to write about.

Some of the most effective essays write about really small occurrences. I'll show you how I did this for my Harvard supplemental essay:

Decide what you want to convey before you write. In my case, my main essay was pretty serious and intellectual. Therefore, I wanted to show my more humorous, playful, and sociable side. I loved being on my swim team (think of something you love to do), and decided to connect what I wanted to show about my personality to the swim team.

I wrote "Swim team" in big bold letters at the top of a page. Then I just wrote whatever came to mind about swim team. In my case, it was something like this:

swimming, adrenaline, silence of the race, being a member of a team, bleaching my hair, goofing around with teammates, cold and difficult sets, relay at state, etc

Don't think about the essay yet. Just write random stuff down.

Read your list, and then, pick one thing that stands out and start writing about it. You'll find that if you've picked an important topic to you that you can seamlessly move about the most important topics on your list.

And now you have your first draft!

thanks for those suggestions, im really grateful to you all

i jst had an idea. i was thinkin to write abt how my country was affected by civil war and how through my accounting/econ major i will help to rebuild the economics of my country??

do u think i can use this subject matter for personal essay?? or would it fit more for "why this major" question?

That's more of a why this major essay.

Some girl applying to Tufts wrote about how she had fat hands.
