I already wrote essays, and I am proud of the topics I chose for them. Here is the problem: I am hearing impaired, and this brings my verbal score on SAT down dramatically. I want to explain it to colleges, but I have no room in essays. So, I am thinking of writing a personal letter to colleges, but I am scared that it will make admission officers angry or that it will make me look desperate. Do you have any ideas?

Have your guidance counselor mention it in their recommendation. Some colleges have a place for "other information" in the application, too.

Thank you. Those are great ideas!

I have a hearing loss also, but how does that affect your SAT verbal score?? My verbal score is significantly lower than my math score, but I never thought it was because of my hearing loss..

Just general advice having gone thru the apps process this year, don't withhold anything just because the college didn't ask for it. I mean don't send in boxes full of recommendatiuons ...but if you want to send in an extra letter or a portfolio supplement or a personal view book , go for it. I don't think you have anything to lose. the worst is they might set it aside and look at it later. good luck ,,, do you speak amslan?.. i think that is so beautiful. My cousin taught me some swear words in amslan.

Don't most college applications have a space for additional information?

Wouldn't your hearing loss be considered a disability? Just wondering
