would an essay about a local issue that does have a great deal of significance to me personally be suitable for this essay topic? admittedly, i did write this for the University of Michigan. but it is turning out pretty well and i truly do incorporate myself into it.

also will the adcom know i reused it? and will they care as long as it is well written and sincere?

That essay confused me too. I had a really tough time with it. I ended up using the same topic as for Michigan, also. But mine was about a setback and how I changed and what I learned and stuff. I sent it in yesterday so I hope it's okay... I think it is so open ended so you can basically do whatever you want as long as it's well done.

If you're talking about the SFS essay, the prompt does say "global," so I would stray away from a local issue.

Maybe you could tie your local issue to a more international one...?

As for re-using the essay, when I visited UNC, the admissions guy said they usually recognize questions from other schools' apps, but don't care at all. As long as your essay is good, that's all that matters.

My "personal or creative" essay was about how I came to choose my major, my passion, and what they both mean to me. It seems pretty generic. I'm also using that essay for my common app one.
