Personal Questions about UCI

Ok, so what exactly does a person have to do to get a single room?
I will do ANYTHING!
Do you just turn your housing application ASAP? Beg?

First off, there is no garuntee for a single.

My personal views of Mesa Court Barranca is that I have pretty nice facilities. I'm the latest phase so I have bigger and nicer dorms. Sadly, I ended up with a not so great bunch of hallmates, but it doesn't phase me. I still hang out with alot of my hallmates and others from my classes/other halls. However, I kinda wished I were in the newest phase at ME because biking uphill to class can be very energy consuming. I wouldn't want to live in the older phases at ME though. I'm too blinded by the new phase at MC =].

As for the social life at UCI, I'm going to stick with it being entirely subjective. My joy doesn't necessarily come from going out with people and having a blast. I actually enjoy my major, learning, and talking to my professors about academics since I'm really in the mood to achieve a Ph.D right now. I had a good run last quarter, and I can see that I'm growing. I'm pretty much just really happy I'm in college being able to pursue that Ph.D. The UC system has much more to offer than the ordinary student knows about in terms of academics.

The biggest cons of this school, I think (off the top of my head) are the following:
-Too many students try to go home on the weekends so it makes it a bit dead. However, I hang out with my friends that stay on campus (like my roommate who lives only 25 min away) and drive to places.
-It's not cold enough at Irvine! I like the NorCal cold and I miss it =[. The weather here is too nice haha.
-I can't download using p2p programs at the dorms. I don't exactly have time to watch much and I end up streaming everything so I've been surviving. I'll be living in apartments for the next three years so I won't have this problem again.

I would just love to go to Chill kick backs and this places seems pretty much wat im lookin for... a pretty goal oriented place. Thnx for the info jason... pretty much helped me choose where to go...

jas0n, you mentioned that you can't download on P2P. Does that mean just like Limewire, Ares, etc... Or does that also include BitTorrent? I heard you can use P2P, it's just very slow.. True? Oh what is it about this network thing I hear that goes at like 5mb/sec?

Haha, sorry for all the questions I'm asking you in multiple threads. There's so much to ask...

Pretty much you can't bittorrent. There could be ways around it, but the ones I know would get me caught. If you find the right ports you can use BT, but I don't even bother. I don't really need BT anyway. I stream my TV shows and download music from an alternate source. ResNet is a fast, reliable network. It may go slow at times (as do any internet service), but I found it reliable within the last year.

Oh yea, just to keep me from going allover the place, please ask me questions in my thread. It's kinda hard keep track of things and I tend to not check all the threads with my new Q&A thread. I just answer OPs.

Oh P-Co Records! If you have schools that are more "prestigious" than UCI in your choices you should consider those. UCLA and UCB are generally more goal oriented. I'm just saying that the UCs offer a lot over CSUs and some privates.

If worst comes the worst, search it on youtube, they have many many MANY videos...lol

I was planning on going to UCI in the first place, u just pushed it even more a little. and the other choices i had were UCR (out of the question with UCI acceptance) and ASU (with a half ride).

"The UC system has much more to offer than the ordinary student knows about in terms of academics. " Jas0n

Amen Jas0n if only they knew.....

How does one go about getting scholarships for UCI? Does UCI give them or do we look at other places?
