personal statement in major with no experience?

Hey guys, I'm an Am. Lit. major and have lots of experience in the English field which will come in handy for my personal statement. Lot's of published work and time in the field. However, I'm strongly considering switching over to Poli. Sci. instead. But I have zero experience in that field and no EC's in it either. How many of you chose a major you had no experience or EC's in? How did you handle the prompt regarding your experience in the field?

The first question is more wondering why you chose your major. They want to see that you’re passionate about it, and that you plan to stick with it. If you’re set on Poli Sci, why? Write about that, what makes you want to major in it?

Or you could try to pick up a new EC/class/experience this summer, so you know what you’re getting into before you’re locked into being a Poli Sci major at your UC.

That’s good advice, thanks. I’m off to law school after my UG, so I suppose I could work that angle, my interest in law, politics and making an impact in helping the disabled and minorities through political and legal efforts. Hmm. I guess instead of concentrating on my past experience, I could focus on the future in the personal statement.

@fulload Have you taken a political sci class? Talk about how the class has inspired you to choose political sci as your major. This tactic worked for me.

Yeah, two of them so far and loved them both. Great idea!
