I'm at 1017 words vs the instructed limit of 1000 words. Does it matter?

No. You can go a little over, but > 20 is considered “not following requirement”, as one of the Davis counselor told me :)

If the application lets you go over 1000. Last year it didn’t.

lol just delete around 30 words. 950-1000 is perfect ^^

Oh ok, I’ll have to check… bc those words are precious :D

Yeah, there are still some printed materials (from Cal, I think) that says that a few extra words isn’t a problem (they always give 1,012 as the example). However, mikey is right–last year’s application wouldn’t allow you to enter more than 1,000 words.

I went over, so I just deleted the words until I hit back down to 1000. However, my sentence ends abruptly. This is how my essay ends:

"…after learning this experience I have --"

And nothing after that.

I think im going to have two versions of my personal statement ready- a 1017 word and a 1000 word version. Because they only give you 30 minutes to paste your statement in. This way if the longer one is too much, I can paste my shorter one in quick and easy. Good idea?

Last year I applied as a freshman, I think I hit 1017 total? Maybe 1012. In any case, I was allowed to submit that.
