Hi - I need some help in figuring out if there is a one person/office that I can call to set up a personalized visit at the university. At other schools we have visited, I was able to speak to one person, and they created a custom tour that included the specific departments (Honors, Business, etc.) we were interested in visiting. Does anyone have advice on who to call at Kentucky?
We have already had a general tour of the school, and we are flying in from Austin, TX to have a closer look, like we have had at other schools. I want to make sure my daughter has had the opportunity to explore each school at the same level before she has to start making decisions.
For what it’s worth, my daughter is likely a National Merit Finalist (hoping for Patterson scholarship) – I don’t know if that makes a difference.
Thanks for your feedback!
Don’t know about personalized tours but looking at their web site they indicate that many of the schools, administration, etc. have walk-in hours during the weekday. My guess is you could probably contact them and see about making some appointments or you could just take your chances and do the walk-in hours.
You might start with the Welcome Center that runs the general tours. We did the group tour thing over the summer. Enjoyed the school very much and the Lexington area is very nice. My D was accepted but she is most likely not going to attend opting to stay in-state instead.
If you are flying in and its a weekend then you might not have much luck other than the general tour. One thing I know my D did when she visited Indiana University was to reach out to some people she knew. Rather than take the general tour, one of the girls she knew from HS who is a Freshman at IU took her around, let her hang out in her dorm, etc. and gave her a more personalized tour that way.
Coming from TX you might not know anyone there but if you have a connection like that you might want to try that route. My daughter liked having a current student she knew walk her around. Felt like she got a better sense of the campus atmosphere that was unfiltered like you get on the tours.
We went to UK at spring break last year. I just e-mailed the admissions office and asked for them to help me meet with someone in the department and they set-up a class for my daughter to attend and a meeting with the head of the department. They were very helpful. Don’t have a copy of person’s name (daughter did the e-mailing), but they were one of the folks that managed the tours and honors presentations. I’m sure they can help.
Thanks for your input. I actually found Hannah Legris in the Honors department and we have now set up a meeting with her, and she has put me in touch with some of the other folks that we wanted to talk to.
