Pets?

I don't know if this question has been brought up before...but are pets allowed in the dorm? I don't have one that would be acceptable (Alas, my poor beta fish has passed on, and my black lab is almost 100 lbs) but I'm thinking of maybe getting an iguana or something exotic :D

I think I should probably wait until I get my admissions decision to be asking this...but does anyone know the rules and regulations on having pets in the dorms?

Theoretically, if I had a gerbil and you had an iguana and we both happened to have the same dorm, would the iguana harm the gerbil in any way or vice versa?

Idk but somehow i doubt that my chinchilla would be allowed…

There are no pets allowed, but sometimes the Resident Heads, or adults who live in the dorms as sort of supervisors, often have pets.

Pets are not allowed. Not even fish. You’re allowed to grow a plant if you like, though this is really only a good idea during Spring Quarter. My plan - steal a sapling from the courtyard of BJ and grow it as my own. Shh…

The rule in my dorm is that you can’t have a pet that breathes the same way we do. Which basically means, just fish.

Hahaha well there goes that guys. Oh well, the plant idea sounds good to me. Except the last time I tried that, it died pretty quickly. I’m not gifted with a green thumb, let’s just say that >_>

Maybe I’ll get some of those fake ones that just look real xD

Yep, sorry to squish dreams, but official housing policy is that you can’t have anything that isn’t capable of living underwater. Fish and some types of tiny turtle are fine; everything else is a no-go.

WAIT HOLD THE PHONE! TURTLES?!?!? YESSSSSSSSSS

My life is complete :3

My friend has a small little water turtle that she wants to get rid of. I would love to have a turtle :D

My S’s RH folks have a dog which is well-loved by all. Perfect size for cuddling and hug therapy.

I think people would love my dog…It’s going to be really really hard to part with her

But she’s huge, so it won’t work out, and I don’t want to be a burden on anyone else or even myself.

No real pets–just fish, I think, although I don’t know anyone who has any fish. RHs usually have pets, though–my RHs have two incredibly dumb (and yet awesome) cats and a poor old dog. They satisfy my animal yearnings. :)

Dogs and college-student lifestyles really don’t go well together. My daughter was furious at some friends (off-campus) for getting an admittedly adorable puppy, and then having their lives be just as crazy as they were before, leaving their entire friendship network stressed and exasperated trying to keep the puppy alive, quiet, and peeing outdoors.

Save a dog for after your life is more settled. If you need more dog-time than your RH is willing to cede, I’m sure there are dog parks around HP where you can meet people who would be more than thrilled to hire you to dog-sit occasionally.
