Yesterday I got in trouble for petty theft. I was hungry, stupid, and poor and wanted a ice cream bar. I’m not here to talk about the philosophy behind why or why not to steal because I HAVE learned my lesson, but more so to ask the following question.
I have not been convicted to of any felony of any sort and this will be my very first misdemenor which I will be able to “seal and destroy” in two years.
Will this in any way shape or form cripple my chances to the top colleges I have been working so hard for?
Thanks

Might not cripple but you'll probably have to disclose it. The fact you just did it can't reflect well...

given the potential impact this has on your life at this point, you should be seeking advice from a qualified lawyer and not an anonymous forum. If there are steps you should be taking now to make things better and nobody tells you in time, what recourse will you have?

Much as people are willing to help on this forum, and want to help, you have a specific legal problem and there are people trained and qualified to answer your questions. Maybe the record can be expunged right now, for example. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't speak with a lawyer. If money is a problem most areas have a lawyer-referral program thru the bar ass'n where you can get lo-cost or free legal aid.

Now is not the time to just hope things blow over or go away on their own. Painful as this is, you really need to follow up on this.
