Pharmacy and Medical School?

I recently got accepted to the 6 year Pharmacy Program at Northeastern. However, is it possible to apply for the Tufts Early Assurance (Tufts Medical School Early Assurance Program (MD)) after my second year? I'm still kind of torn between pursuing a Pharmacy or medical career, so I was wondering if I could apply after my sophomore year to get some assurance for medical school or just completely focus on Pharmacy

The program is structured for 4 or 5 year candidates, so i don’t think you can do it w/ pharmacy, although I may be wrong.

Uh… well… I doubt you’d get in. The Tufts program is pretty strict, and if they see you as pharmacy they’ll assume you want pharmacy- and that you’re not serious about medical school. Plus after your second year you have to officially apply (mainly an interview, I think) to the pharmacy program. I’m pretty sure nearly everyone gets in, but they like to check to make sure you’re really serious and you aren’t failing all your classes.

I agree with neuchimie. I doubt Tufts would accept a pharm major.

But it doesn’t even matter, Tufts early assurance is a really terrible thing to base any decisions off of. It is not the be-all-end-all.

Tufts EA admits are top top students, and they would have done just fine in regular medical admissions. And yay, they get to avoid a LOT of hassle that comes with pre-med hoop jumping and game playing, and yay, they have guaranteed acceptance to a really great medical school. Tufts EA is pretty rad, but it also closes some doors. What if you get sick of Boston? What if you decide Tufts isn’t a great fit for you? What if you just want to explore your options? What if you realize you don’t want to pay for one of the most expensive medical schools in the country? What if you realize you don’t actually want to be a doctor at all?

Anyway, that’s a tangent. My point is, forget Tufts for now. Do a year as a pharm major. Try to explore a bit, do some volunteering and some shadowing, and try to figure out what you really want to do. If you decide pharm isn’t for you, you can switch during the first year or two to bio/biochem/bns/blah and take it from there. Maybe you’re able to apply to Tufts EA, maybe you aren’t. And if you aren’t, it’s not a big deal, because most applicants are rejected anyway, and there are gazillions of other great (and cheaper!) medical schools in the country.
