pharmacy odds?

SAT SCORE-
First try (in 10th grade)- 530 Critical Reading; 550 Math; 480 Writing (1560)
Second try (11th grade)- 580 Critical Reading; 580 Math; 610 Writing (1770)

I am taking them again in later October, and have been doing an online course so I hope to improve.

GPA unweighted: 4.0
GPA weighted: 5.165

Class Rank: 18/276.

EC:
Young Women Leaders
Key Club
4H
Fieldhockey + basketball

I have a bunch of community service hours, as well as work experience.

6 honors classes(english 1+2, algebra 2, chemistry, history 1+2, biology), 3 AP classes(physics, history, english 3), and then 3 more AP classes my senior year(psychology, biology, english 4)

I am in state, and really want to get into the pharmacy program. I think the only thing hurting me is my SAT, but I am trying to pull that up.

So, does anyone think I have a shot?

i cant figure out how to edit my post- my SAT is a 1790, not 1770

Hard to say - at first blush I wonder if your SAT's may knock you out. Are you taking calculus this year? If not, I think it is a real stretch.

Do you represent any minority group in the Pharmacy program? In this case, caucasians are minorities. Consider applying for the Newark 2+4 Pharmacy option, as that could be a back door option for you if you do not get in the front door. I do not know how heavily Pharmacy weights the GPA vs the SAT. Forget the writing part of the SAT, that is not being looked at for admissions until at least next year.

How did you do on the AP exams - if you did well, make sure to indicate that!

i am taking calculus this year, but it is not AP it is just regular. i am also caucasian.

i got a 4 on my history exam and a 3 on my english. i did not take the physics exam because of money, and knowing if i did get a 4 or a 5 i would be taking the class in college anyway.

this year i am getting dual credit at gloucester county community college for my 3 ap classes (bio, psych, and english). i dont know if that will help or not.

i am taking the SATS again in a october, what score do you think i need?

and, on the application it never said anything about the newark 2+4 option. i was under the assumption that you applied for the 6 year, and if you were one of the next on the list you would be deferred to the 2+4 year once the acceptances were full.

thank you so much for answering!

Being realistic? I doubt it. At least from what ive heard. Ive heard of several African Americans making it into the school with SAT scrores like yours but never a Caucasian (And im not saying this to be racist - just something ive heard). But then again what do i know? Might as well apply!

how much improvement do i need? i have been taking an the college board online course, and i really hope to bring it up.

There are many more females enrolled in Pharmacy than males, so that does not work to your advantage. Being caucasian is a slight advanatge (IMO).

As far as the community college credits, I know the rules in the pharmacy school are that if you did not physically leave your school to attend the college, you cannot be given college credit (you would be eligible for AP credit with a 4 or 5).

I have no idea of real SAT requirements, but I would think another 100 points between the math and verbal would be a significant help. I am sure that if you had a crazy smart day and went up 200 points, you would get in with a 1360!

My theory is that what is meant to be is meant to be. If you get in, you belong there. If not, better to not waste time, energy & money on a program that may not be best suited to you strengths.

Good Luck!

University of the Sciences in Phila. states their SAT's are 1100's out of 1500 and they have a 6 year pharm.D program. Friend got a scholarship, white male, with 1350 out of 1600.

yes, i am applying to USP as well.

i visited both schools, and Rutgers campus was just more appealing to me. Plus in-state tuition is unbeatable.

Hopefully this online course will have brought my score up! wish me luck next saturday.

thanks everyone- ill keep you updated!

what about asian population at Rutgers pharmacy?

There are a lot of Asians in Pharmacy regardless of what school you go to.
