Hello, is pharmacy school hard? Did you find it difficult or was it easy?
I heard some students say that it’s hard to go into pharmacy school, is that true?
Pre-requisites include biology, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry and calculus. Are those classes easy? No. So I would say that of course the classes that come after that in pharmacy school are hard.
I hope it’s hard I don’t want some slacker in charge of my medicine…
It depends on how much effort you put into your studying. If you are willing to invest a lot of time into studying in pharmacy, it shouldn’t be hard. I recommend MCPHS (Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science) in Boston. They have a great 6 year pharmacy program and their curriculum is well structured. The location of the school is good not only for fun but also for an academic factor. There are total 6 hospitals around the school including Boston children’s hospital so students here have really great opportunities for internship too.

Look through this curriculum for example, to see what all they have to take. That is for pharm school, 4 year and like @madison85 said 2 yr of prerequisites in chem, bio, calc, etc with at least 15 credits a semester, 8 just from bio and chem including labs.
It’s definitely not easy. You also have to get a good gpa in these courses to apply to pharm school.
And take the PCAT and do well on it.
In PA you also have to have 1500 pharmacy intern hours.
One class in first year of pharmacy school had specific prerequisites of physics, calculus and organic chemistry - the textbook title: Thermodynamics of Pharmaceutical Systems.
Definitely sounds hard!
Depending on the state you are in, you may have to work while in school to obtain your internship hours which can make it even more challenging.
Take it from a PharmD of 25 years-it was very hard then. I can’t imagine it being any easier now. And I didn’t have the stress of the PCAT back in " the old days". It is however, very obtainable for those who are driven and have a sincere interest. Best of luck to you!
