Pharmacy Schools

I'm just a junior right now but I've really been thinking of going to Pharmacy school. The only problem is I don't really want to risk studying pre-pharmacy for 2 years (maybe more) and then end up not getting in. I've been looking into schools that automatically admit you into the pharmacy school as a college freshman but most of them are extremely pricey and are out of state (I live in Las Vegas, NV). Any ideas on this? I appreciate all the advice I can get.

I understand from our student interns that it is very competitive to get into pharmacy school. Every year the admission requirements go up...microbiology, physics, calc, etc. If you can get into a direct admit pharmacy school, I'd take it. If you take two years of prepharm and don't get in, thus requiring an additional year before reapplication, the cost difference is less of an issue.

FYI, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh has a direct admit pharmacy program: http://www.pharmacy.duq.edu/

FYI, Pitt admits to their pharmacy program after two years, and I hear you need near a 4.0 to get in. I know 3.5 students who couldn't get in. http://www.pharmacy.pitt.edu/

You may also want to look at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences,www.mcphs.edu
They have both undergraduate and graduate pharmacy programs.

Thank you for the school info you gave lkf. I've actually been looking at 3 schools so far that have a direct admit policy: Oregon State University in Corvallis, MCPHS (thanks Chedva) and University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. They're really pricey but I figure it will make me feel more secured to be in those schools. MCPHS is actually my first choice. They're the ones who offer I think a $15,000 scholarship for a high GPA and a 31 on the ACT. I just got my results yesterday and I got a 30. I feel a little miffed by that because now I have to retake it. But then, I figure I have enough time.

Thanks again, I'm going to check out that website lkf.

I will list schools that offer 6year pharm D program.
I am currently a senior and got accepted to about 5 6year schools.

St.John's university (NY)
Rutgers University (NJ)
Albany college of pharmacy (NY)
Duquesne University (PA)
University of Sciences in Philadelphia (PA)
Northeastern University (MA)
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy (MA)
Ohio Northern University
Hampton University (VA)
University of Rhode Island (RI)

Thanks, haksun! I replied to your thread before I checked this one. Never mind my question there then. I really appreciate the help.

University of Texas at Austin - College of Pharmacy - Austin
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University - College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
St. Louis College of Pharmacy - St. Louis

I found three more! hope that it helps!
and You are welcome!

Consider the University of Cincinnati Schoolof Pharmacy, which is ranked in the top 50. Also, being a state school, its tuition is a bit lower than their private school counterparts.

University of Michigan, university of toledo, and Wayne State University all have solid pharm programs

Do you all know which of these admit directly from high school, as I think that was what the OP was hoping for?

Thank you for the list of schools everyone. I'm checking each one now. While I know it sure will take a while, I'm really glad that I know more schools out there offering the kind of program I want.
