hi, I'm going to be a senior in high school this fall and I have to start making my college lists and all that. I would like to study either pharmacy or dentistry in college (more interested in pharmacy). I was wondering if I want to become a pharmacist, would I have to find a college that has a pharmacy major/ program which admits students right out of high school??? I noticed Rutrgers and U of Pittsburgh both have a 6 year pharmacy program that admits students right out of high school. or should I study biology/ chemistry in college. and after graduating from college, then go to pharmacy school?? which one is the best and which one do most people pick? oh and last question....what are some colleges that have a descent pharmacy program/ major in the state of PA, NJ, and NC ?

Pharmacy is a typically a graduate program. There's no such thing as an undergraduate pharmacy major. Some schools may have a combined program, but these programs often have very few slots available and are typically quite hard to get into.

If you're not 100% sure on pharmacy, you'd be best off just going to college and exploring your options, then planning your future from there. If pharmacy is still in the picture, you can apply to pharm schools no matter what your major is (as long as you take the required courses). Some universities offer pre-pharmacy advising to undergrads, although advising isn't necessary.

Here are some colleges in the Northeast that do offer advising, in case you're interested: Fordham, Gettysburg, Juniata, Rowan, UConn, York College, etc. General pre-health science advising could be helpful too.

Look at the University of Rhode Island.

Try the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (used to be Phila. College of Pharmacy -- PCP, I kid you not!). Wow, my SIL is a pharmacist and it was a five year BS program! (this was 25 years ago, but still...)

thank u all...
hey keep the post coming!!
