Pharmacy vs Business

I've really considered both aspects. Pharmacy has it's upsides... Automatic acceptance into the Pharmacy school (with a 3.0 GPA, I believe), good pay, job security... but I feel as if being a Pharmacist will be too dull. On the other hand, Business has its ups and downs as well. Northeastern has a great co-op for business, from what I've heard, and I really want to get involved in sports if I do indeed pursue Business.

Considering the pros/cons of each (salary, quality of life, etc.), what is the recommendation? Granted, this is only to get some advice.

And is it possible to do both Pharmacy and Business?

You can do a lot of things with a PharmD. Counting pills isnt the only thing. You can work in the pharma industry which opens you up to a wide variety of jobs.
If you are very, very interested in business but dont want to give up pharmacy, then you should go for the dual degree PharmD/MBA at schools like Purdue. I know that Rutgers recently got an approval for a pharmD/MBA degree. I dont know if you applied to Rutgers or not. What you could do is go to Northeastern pharm for 2 years, then if you are doing well and like pharmacy after your first co-op, you can continue it. If you still want to do business, then you can take the PCATs after the 2nd year, and apply for Purdue PharmD/MBA program or other schools that have it and basically leave Northeastern.

Um. Sorry to be a downer, but this isn’t just about “do I want to be a pharmacist or do I want go into sports business”. Sure, you can be a business-related pharm person and all, as said above, but… this is also about the fact that you’ll be studying BUSINESS or studying PHARMACY. If you kind of like pharmacy, but can’t handle the VERY difficult and pressured science course load, then you shouldn’t do pharmacy, even if you plan on dropping out later on. Moreover, internal transfer into business at Northeastern is very hard, especially if you have already taken a lot of classes in a different subject.

To “combine” business and pharmacy, you do it AFTER you graduate- with another degree (like MBA) or by shifting how you pursue your career. The courses of study are too different.

If you like business in sports, do that. If you want to do business for health professions, that’s very possible and people do it all the time. But pharmacy is a professional program and it is very hard. It isn’t something to just take lightly and think, oh I can just drop out no problem if I don’t like it. It’s not just pill counting, but it’s still pharmacy.
