My daughter applies to U. R.I into PharmD program. She got "not admitted"' but was offered to on waitlist. Does anyone think that she has "high chance" after all acceptance students make deposit? In the meantime, should I go with another school that already accepted her ?

From what I understand about waitlists, the answer to your 2nd question is “Yes”. You have to tell schools whether you accept or not by May 1st. So URI will make their decisions about admitting people from the waitlist after May 1st. If your D doesn’t say “yes” to any school while you are waiting to hear from URI, what happens if she doesn’t get in to URI? She’ll be stuck with no school.

@Thecats…Did your daughter apply RD? If so, when did she hear? Also, do you mind posting her stats? We are waiting for a decision from URI’s Pharm D program too!

@ Kayzeema: Yes, my daughter applied as regular decision. In fact, she applied to not only PharmD, but also Chemistry/BioChem. We received the acceptance letter with a finance aid plan along on March 11th, 2013. In a letter, it mentioned only Chemistry major that accepts my daughter. It did not mention about PharmD. We logged into an account to follow up, and nothing indicated that she is admitting into PharmD. Until a week ago, I called their admission office; I was told that my daughter was not admitted; instead she was on waiting list.

In your case, I guess that you should be optimistic that you would be accepted into PharmD. That’s why it takes longer . They need to prepare your finance package .

@ConfusedMominMa: Yes, you’re right on being “stuck” with no school. U.R.I told me that they will not have an answer for us until June. It’s sad.

Thanks @Thecats…Good luck to your daughter! I am sure she will end up exactly where she is supposed to be!

@Keyzeema-
It seems like your D and my S are in the same (strange) boat! Lets hope “thecats” is right about the reason why LOL!

My S refuses to call and doesn’t want me to call either, so I have to respect his wishes. In the meantime he’s done admitted students tours at the other 2 (of his top 3) schools and feels that URI may be falling from his list of top choices. I think he just needs to visit again, but we are waiting to find out if he’s admitted or not!! He feels pressure from other schools to get housing stuff submitted or plan to be without a place to live. I can’t wait until the decision is made.

Here’s hoping we both get the answer soon!

@Bearvet…Fingers crossed for your son (and you). My D went back up last weekend and saw URI/UConn. She has always loved UConn but because of the the URI 0-6, we’ve tried to really help her see the benefit of that program (assuming she is admitted). This waiting is excruciating and we are feeling the same pressure as you are in terms of the other schools. Aside from the kids waiting to hear from the Ivies on Monday, most of the kids in my D’s class have already made their decisions and I think she’d really just like to get this decision made. I hope you’ll post when you hear. I promise I will do the same (good or bad)…

Well, we have an answer, but not the one we were hoping for unfortunately. Son has the “Congratulations” message now, but was admitted with a major in Biology - doesn’t mention anything about Pharmacy at all. This doesn’t totally eliminate URI for him, but changes the picture quite a bit.

Well, my D ONLY applied for Pharmacy (she did not list a second choice major on her application) and she was waitlisted. Truthfully, in some respects, it makes our lives a little easier because she REALLY wants UConn so there really is nothing to debate. UConn it is!! Best of luck to you and yours Bearvet and Thecats!!!

Son wants to see URI again, so he and my husband will visit next week (husband hasn’t been there yet). He really liked the school, but hasn’t been there since last Sept.

He is strongly considering Ohio State - he just returned from there. It has everything in the world you could possibly want and his 2 older brothers are there. We also have family in Cincy and Cleve, so he’d like to be closer to all of them. It’s a bit “busy” for him, but he’ll find his niche.

His other choice is USF in Tampa, which he visited again in Feb and really likes a lot. The warm weather is definitely a draw for him.

Big decision to make! Sounds like your D will be happy at UConn!! And now the decision is made for you, you can just move forward! Good luck!
