PhD mentor

Hi,

I want to get some scientific research done before high school ends. I was told I need a PhD mentor from a local university. How do I get a mentor?

What sort of scientific research are you trying to get done?

Like about green energy or computer science, someone told me what happens in scientific research and it seems fun, but I need a mentor

Computer science is a field where many senior engineers in industry can mentor a student hoping to improve their abilities. You don’t need a PhD or college lab to get better at CS. Look for user groups and meet ups in your area of interest (e.g security, data science, AI, etc) and start showing up and asking questions.

For green energy (and CS if you want), start by making a list of colleges within commuting distance from home and then scour their web pages for labs that might interest you. Once you identify a lab, look up the professors involved in Google scholar. Then send an email indicating your interest in having a high school student working in their lab and ask for a meeting. If you have any particular qualifications (such as an AP science class or relevant skills) mention those as well.

Thanks so much
