Philadelphia Colleges

Can anyone rank at least the top 5 in the Philly area?

Philly area-Lehigh,Bucknell,Villanova come to mind.

Philadelphia proper-Upenn,Temple,Drexel,La Salle,St.Joseph's,Philadelphia University.

Add Haverford, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, plus lots more within a 30-60 mile radius.

Penn, Villanova, Temple, St. Joseph's, La Salle, Drexel

Lehigh and Bucknell are not in the Philadelphia area.

Ranking- Penn, Swarthmore, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Ursinus or Villanova

think its pointless to rank universities with small colleges as they deliver different educational products. for example, for undergraduate experience, many people would rank haverford and swarthmore ahead of penn.

think it's also pointless to rank swarthmore haverford and bryn mawr too as they all provide fantastic educations but do it in completely unique ways and the campus cultures seem to me to be pretty different on my visits... it really depends what you're looking for i guess...

Swarthmore/UPenn
Haverford
Bryn Mawr
Villanova
Drexel/Ursinus
Temple
St Joseph's
LaSalle
Arcadia
Philadelphia U.
Chestnut Hill
Cabrini

(Curtis- ridiclously amazing music school)

Temple is MUCH better then Drexel and Ursinus (Minus Engineering for Drexel). Swarthmore is a good hour or so away. I live 10 mins from Nova, and like 5 from BMC/Haverford, so theyre all around 30ish mins from Philly.

UPenn/Swarthmore (obvious)

Others in no particular order:
Lehigh, Lafayette, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, etc

Lehigh is in rural PA! Not near Philly at all. Awesome school, but not even close to being called a suburb.

Why would anyone ever want to go to Drexel????? :(

how much better is Villanova than Temple?...

jPOD, as much as you love Temple, Drexel beats it by a small margin; Ursinus by a more considerable amount.

Let's say we talk Philadelphia and its metropolitan areas. That includes Philadelphia County, Montgomery County, Delaware County, Bucks County, Camden County, Gloucester County, and Burlington County.

So, this includes a little bit of New Jersey too. Just a good starting point.

To kk: don't be such a snob. My uncle graduated from Drexel and now lives in a 20,000 sq. foot house.

To FL7: Villanova is considerably better than Temple. Both schools have their strong points, of course.

lehigh is really not that far from philly. Its a little over an hour depending on the day and whose driving. if you include swarthmore theres no reason not to include lehigh.

I would have to say that Drexel/Ursinus/Nova, etc. Arent (if at all) that much better then Temple is.

When did the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area become rural?...Hmm, I didn't know that. Oh and btw, Lehigh is def. in the Philadelphia area...large, large connections.

I wouldnt call 1 hour 20 mins or so in the Philly area....

Maybe this is misconcieved, but I have always considered Temple (and 'Nova) to be considerably more prestigious than Ursinus or Drexel.

" I have always considered Temple (and 'Nova) to be considerably more prestigious than Ursinus or Drexel."

-I would say most people do. Temple is probably the most comprehensive school in the area. It's also like the 39th largest in the country, so who knows....

Swarthmore is in a suburb. It takes about 30 minutes to get downtown without traffic (driving). There is also a train right from campus.
Lehigh is NOT in a suburb. It is in Bethlehem, PA. That is NOT a suburb. It is well over an hour from downtown Philadelphia. It is also not rural.
Ursinus is in a far suburb. It is past Valley Forge. It is NOT easy to get to downtown Philadelphia from there unless you can get to Norristown and catch a train. Temple has a decent reputation in Philadelphia- the med school is excellent. The surrounding area is bad. Drexel campus is horrible, too. It's only benefit is that it is next to Penn. Princeton is as close to Philadelphia as Lehigh.
