Yea I wouldn’t be too worried about that. My grades dropped immensely, but no C’s…so I’m not really worrying.

Mr. Feng and Mr. Wolfson are both amazing teachers… Mr. Wolfson in particular really really cares about the students. He’s great. Anyway, if anyone has q’s about Exeter, feel free to PM me! I’m not on the prep school forum a lot but I can answer your PMs congrats on getting in this year, it must have been so competitive.

I’ve had both teachers, and both have very good reputations. Mr. Wolfson famously let us choose our own grades based on what we thought we “deserved,” and our tests tended to be partner/open book. While my favorite math teacher was Mr. Hardej, who doesn’t tend to get much press either positively or negatively, but who in my opinion made math far more interesting, Feng and Wolfson were both perfectly good teachers. I will say, though, that I had Feng for T3X (the highest possible starting course - I was actually with Tuesdayair!) my prep year, and that he wasn’t too happy about the fact that I wasn’t interested in Math Club/Olympiad/etc, or that I preferred English/history/drama to math.

Thus I’d advise people going into T3X that it’s not just about ability/experience in math, but rather about interest; the class is really geared towards people who want to make math the center of their Exeter experience, and while Mr. Feng is perfectly nice, he definitely shapes the class in such a way that it’s more than “just” one of your five periods…

YOU’RE FROM ENGLAND!

Were you my… tour guide?

I’m American, actually (well, -ish. Italian dad, American mom, grew up in Paris, Rome, NYC). I’m an '08 grad now at the University of Oxford. I might know you - are you '11 or older?

'11, but not at Exeter - I’m starting at Andover next year. Sorry to disappoint! I applied to Exeter as well as Andover and had a British tour guide during my visit, which was probably no coincidence since I’m from and live in England.

So you’re doing well then - I’ll probably apply to either Oxford or Cambridge since, strangely enough, one may not apply to both in the same year… I’m leaning more towards Oxford at the moment, more or less purely because I know fewer people who go there than go to Cambridge. Is Oxford everything it’s cracked up to be?

I love it more than words can say. I’m a theologian at Oriel nearing the end of my first year - and it’s extraordinary. The town, the societies, the people, the academics - best decision I ever made, by far! Was your tour guide male or female? I might know him/her.

Male - I’ll PM you his first name.

Glad to hear Oxford is indeed as good as I hear! The city of Oxford itself is amazing as well, although it’s consistently impossible to find a parking space anywhere. You must have watched the Boat Race this year as well - and I’m sure you were pleased! Before the teams even got on the water, the Oxford boat was so much more focused and serious, while the Cambridge boat seemed to be making an effort to stay loose and informal, probably in the hope that if they won they would make Oxford look like a bunch of pretentious amateurs. Well, if that was their plan, it failed.

Bump!!!

Did you see the recent email with the orientation schedule in it?

Did everyone get their first choice courses - for the elective ones?

Things are moving right along…fall will be here before you know it, and all us parents will be so sad to see you teens leave the nest!

Yeah I got all my classes that I wanted and I got the orientation schedule. Its all starting to seem realer and realer.

BUMP! One month left!!!

I just started reading this thread, and I know it’s a bit late (so somebody has probably said this… I’m just too lazy to read the whole thing) but Mr. Feng is the 2nd smartest man in China. Note how he’s not even IN china. Dang. That’s pretty good.

oh my goodness!
i’ve heard he’s 3rd, but what the hay. 2nd, 3rd, or whatever, he’s still so smart! (:

How the hell do you rank the smartest people in a whole country…let alone the most populated country in the world.

^ agreed with mpicz… haha, how does that work? hopefully i’ll be in the top 100 million. well, not that i’m in china anymore, but …

can 9th graders join the key club? i’d love to be taken on a tour by someone from CC, haha.

yes divealive, as far as i know.
when i visited exeter, a 9th grader give me a tour. :)

-you hear “sssss” you think “Andover”

ROFLMAO - Forty years later and I STILL do!

Someone I work with says her child was “invited to apply” to this school. Is this true? Does the school “invite people to apply”? Does it mean anything, or is it just marketing the way colleges do?

They come to schools and give presentations and invite groups of kids to apply sometimes. I’ve never actually heard of being given a formal invitation to apply. Maybe if her kid is like a savant from somalia who can tapdance, juggle, and play football at the same time?
