Maybe he meant Satin :p it's so smooth and soft, i could totally see it as a temptation.

Ooops, my bad :) .

I wonder how many people in this thread are atheists...

I'm a proud agnostic.

Being agnostic is nothing to be proud of.

haha, oh no. i sense flame war on the horizon. here we go:

I consider myself in thinking mode. I haven't really decided what to believe.

Why not, Bizman? I think it's much more sensible and humble than claiming knowledge of God's presence or absence. The Universe is far too vast and mysterious for any of us to claim knowledge. And that's what belief is. For that matter, atheism is not the opposition to religion, it is agnosticism. Doubt is the opposite of certainty, and atheism and religion are both certainty.

Oh, and I'm a grammar nazi on this one point. Ending a sentence with a preposition is a crime up with which I will not put.

Oh, and Bizman, are you Business_Freak, by any chance?

Oh, and Holden, I meant no offense, bro. Sorry if you took it that way. If you had met the Holden Caulfield fan club at my school you'd see why I said what I said.

ha, ya none taken. i know there are probably millions of people who claim it to be there favorite book yet also completely misunderstand it. it really is an awesome book though, if you can analyze it correctly...

and,

"The Universe is far too vast and mysterious for any of us to claim knowledge."

i think that is the best thing said thus far on this thread.

adconard: are you referring to the argument of indeterminism vs. determinism or free will vs. determinism? If you can soundly defend free will, I would really like to hear it.

Second, one must claim that the Universe is far too vast and mysterious for any of us to claim knowledge of something, not just knowledge. Otherwise, one would be making a contradictory statement.

mattr, if you will read the entire thing, i was referring to knowledge of God's existence or lack thereof.

Dearest Holden- I didnt say I find it not at all surprising that any Christian has posted, I just wasnt that surprised. Mildly, perhaps, but not at all? Yep, and again, Im stupid, forgive me. I just dont have that superior Holden Caulfield intellect you sport. I know very well I could have searched for statistics, but why should I do the work for your claims? Wheres my Berkeley initiative? I dont know, maybe I left it at school, bud. I was aware the second I read your post that I could have searched for it, but I thought Id let you do it, so you could feel good about your post. Please calm down; there is no need to yell. Just as you relate every post directed towards me about my Berkeleyness, why shouldnt you be expected to have Catcher in the Rye in every post? Thats an unfair double standard. Its my location man, its not something I try to represent with every word I speak or type. Regards.

pwnt......

megalomaniac, if you would read the entire page four, you would see that Holden quoted you... Furthermore, you would see that in the context of this thread his statement is ambiguous.

That's why I said you should read the entire thing...because I figured you just saw the quote.

My gosh, does this thread just make people snippy or something

megalomaniac, if you think Howard Stern created the universe and Eddy Murphy created life, then you got a problem :D

Can we agree that Howard Stern perpetuated irony, and Eddy Murphy is sorta funny sometimes? If not, I'm ok, anyway. :)
