I just wanted to get a quick opinion from CC. I’ve written a short 2000 word philosophy paper on a political philosopher. It hasn’t been published, but rather, it was completed as a high school assignment, and received top marks. I was wondering whether I should submit the introduction of the essay as supplementary material to top schools (Ivy League institutions, and the like)? I know in most circumstances, the answer is “no”; but my essay exemplifies some of the qualities that I’ve talked about in my essay, and the introductory paragraph is quite impressive.
Also, I’m not intending on majoring in Philosophy. My teacher has mentioned the assignment in her recommendation letter (and also talked about how it exemplifies some of the qualities I’ve mentioned in my essays).
I guess my real question is this: How are supplementary materials section evaluated?
If they’re used to judge how successful I’m going to be at the college, then I wouldn’t submit it - it isn’t even related to my intended major.
If they’re used to judge my writing skills, then I’d definitely submit it - that philosophy paper was one of my best written pieces.
If they’re used to judge my characteristics, then I’m not sure - both my teacher and I have mentioned the essay, and talked about how it highlights certain characteristics of mine.
Apologies if this seems like a silly question, and thank you in advance.
