Jagminor, he auditioned only for acting, but it was during the MT time slot, because they had run out of space for the acting time slots. They had told us that was OK, and apparently it was, because an announcement was made, “Is anyone here just for Acting?” and I think he was the only one who responded.

Because of this, I’m not sure if the “didn’t audition for Barbara” thing applies. Well, preseumably it does, because the phone has not rung. Except from the Childhood Leukemia Foundation.

Tea leaves! This is just like reading tea leaves!

So MT calls go out Wednesday. Does that mean all Acting calls are happening tonight? Or will they stop after a certain point and continue calls tomorrow?

As I posted on the theater forum thread it is curious how this played out. It was announced the calls were started and then very quickly from a couple of sources it was reported that two girls and one boy were called. Then, since before 5 est, its been basically silent. Either folks are keeping it to themselves much more than in years past or Barbara started making calls and then stopped. Anyone with inside info on the status of acting calls?

I love this thread. This is how my friends and I have been all along. But it didn’t show through on CC until this thread about CMU. First let me say…there is no way we are expecting a call BUT there is this little glimmer of hope that we could, as Barbara was very very complimentary to us after the audition. My S was passed around to all of them and compliments were thrown around. I think CMU is such a warm fuzzy audition that all that complimenting is deceiving !! How could we be one of the 8 boys that will get passed through to acceptance out of say 600 boys. Btw, the girl working the room for them told me 1300 applicants. So could this be the golden ticket ? Doubtful but always hopeful. Tell me we aren’t all sitting at home thinking that we could get the call. What a crazy process and now have to wait until Wednesday ! At least we have some idea what day to start obsessing ! Thankful to the person that told us the day ! I have a feeling the kids on the Michigan list will be duplicated on the CMU list…but maybe they like a different type of kid. Wouldn’t that be nice. Our last school to hear from. Then the decisions start to be made. Good luck to all of you. Happy St. Patricks day and happy cooking. I will be making a chocolate cake this week. And that Lemon Curd :-)

CarnegieMT2012 Thank you so much for all of the time and support you’ve given everyone! Hugely appreciated! Just wondered if you had any info on when and how notifications might be made for Design. The tech parents wander around and stumble back and forth between the MT and Acting forums, LOL

My D is a current MT @ CMU and I can also confirm that calls to MT have not yet started but calls will begin this week (Wednesday). Traditionally Gary has made the calls, but sometimes he is unable to get in touch directly with the person he is trying to reach, so he will send an email but telephone contact is still made. Good luck to all of you needing therapy over this. We have walked a mile in your shoes and are empathetic. Just know that your child will end up wherever he/she belongs. This will all soon be a distant memory!

catchastar, does your D have any indication that all of the acting calls have been completed? ActingDad had a good point about the relative silence once we heard the calls had started.

And does anyone have any extra ativan?? Xanax?? Merlot?!? (Not for DS, for ME!)

robinsings…No promises, but I think CMU does look for different things. My S, who was accepted to Michigan, CCM, Baldwin-Wallace and others did not get that warm fuzzy feeling at his CMU audition. He was not seen by Gary, Kaf or Babara and was not passed at all. Considering that, I thinks it’s highly doubtful he will get a call. We’ve already had more than our share of good fortune and I wish all of you the best in getting that exciting call or email.

It’s funny how much this process has changed/affected the way my daughter thinks about things. Each experience was different and there were a few (big!) surprises along the way. None of this so far, has turned out like we had imagined. (not worse, and actually probably better!) CMU was her dream school after she spent the summer there at their pre-college MT program. She loves Pittsburgh, the faculty and the way they run their program. She has no expectations about getting in, but took a shot mostly to visit the city again, and to see some of the faculty she grew to love. (Claudia even told her to pop in Gary’s office and say hi before she left, she did and he remembered her and was lovely) As things have evolved though, she has actually fallen in love with another program and isn’t sure she’d take a CMU spot if by some miracle she “won the lottery” and was offered a spot. Which was quite a surprise to hear. She seems to have learned so much about who she is and what she wants that her idea of “fit” has become much clearer. The one she said would seriously cause her some angst in making the decision is if she got a spot at CCPA (Roosevelt in Chicago) because she adores Chicago and would love to be able to connect with that theater community. (including Second City–comedy is her heart) Their decisions are not coming until later in the month though.

She didn’t even look at U of M (UMich as the out-of-towners like to call it) because we live too close to that area and she wants to live someplace else. She has several friends who are current students there and she has been involved in one of their instrumental music programs in the past and it the school just doesn’t spark anything in her. I am sure she is not alone in having a slightly different “top choice” list than one would think of as the standard.

Not sure how dramamamasd heard, but a friend of a friend’s daughter attends CMU and told my friend the same timing. I suppose it could be anytime between today and Wednesday. But so many kids are in school and may not be able to take a phone call.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the acting phone calls? Are they in fact completely finished? Or did Barbara decide to take a break and finish with them sometime this week? CarnegieMT2012 are you still there?
