Phone Calls?

Magicaltheatre13 just go to the top of this page where it says: college confidential>college admissions and search > college major etc… and click on “college Major”. Then scroll down to the theatre/drama major.

Pelky, I am thrilled for your son as he has gotten into my S’s dream school. U of M. But we have now moved on as it is what you have to do. My S has great options now to and we are grateful for the choices. Even if CMU likes different types than say Mich, it’s still a 1% chance of admission. But you just never know. With all of those fabulous choices, has your son narrowed it down yet ? My S’s best friend also got into CCM. So maybe they will meet in the end. I believe all of the kids will know each other as there have been many friendships made since the auditions. Did your S audition at Penn State ? We are waitlisted there and BW.

BookOwl - I do not know if all the drama calls have been completed. It takes some time to connect personally with each prospective student. There are double the number of straight up drama majors than MT, so I imagine it takes twice as long.

Pelky Again - The year my daughter auditioned she was accepted to CMU, UMich and CCM among others. So, at that time, there was definitely duplication. These highly sought after programs may, or may not, be looking for something different. Personally, I think they are looking at the “it” factor. (Plenty of previous posts on that subject).

Speaking from experience, the challenge to those who are offered admission to more than one of these highly competitive programs is to make a fully informed decision. That can sometimes mean another campus visit, awaiting financial aid/scholarship/financing information, and some serious soul searching. Naturally, I understand that does not help those who are on wait-lists. It is agonizing I know - we have been in your shoes so I’m empathetic. But I also must confess that we lost more sleep making the decision which school was the right place for our child to grow and learn, than we did awaiting acceptance notices. We did our due diligence and I suspect there are those this year that will be doing the same.

I can only encourage patience and doing something to distract yourself from this crazy process. The time will pass much more quickly if you do. All the hand wringing in the world isn’t going to change the pace (or outcome) of all this.

Good luck to you all!

I do not know anything other than at 8:45 tonight my D’s friend was accepted into CMU’s MT program. Again, this is just one girl I have no idea if all the calls have been made or not.

I love your post and can say I completely agree with you! We, too, are agonizing more over being sure D can make an informed decision. Taking time right now to visit and thoroughly investigate all programs she will need to decide between, and spending her entire 2-week spring break doing so! It is exhausting, but a great distraction from the “waiting” process! In the end, we can rest assured that whatever decision she makes, it will be made for all the right reasons that are most important to her personally, and she will not have to live with any regrets about having made a rash decision. I feel that every school that has shown interest in her deserves a chance to show us what they have to offer, so we are not going to be pressured into eliminating schools until all have been carefully evaluated and compared. We have spent way too much time researching programs and selecting ones of interest prior to the application and audition process, so we want to see this thing through to the end! May all of these hardworking kids find the best fit for THEM, regardless of a school’s name, and land in a balanced program where they can grow and be appropriately both nurtured and challenged!

robinsings… no, my S did not audition for Penn State.
ATLAST… I will be watching to see where your daughter ends up having even more fantastic choices than my son (I believe they also used the same coaches).

Of course we would love to release spots for others ASAP and he has already declined a few offers. We are still pondering it all and waiting to finalize the decision until the end of this month when all the results and financial info are known. I truly think that he will thrive and be happy at any of the schools he applied to but it is still a difficult decision. I am trying not to lose sleep and taking a zen approach in that whichever school he ultimately chooses will be the right choice.

I have received three missed calls from a Boston 617 number since last night into today. When I call back the voice that plays back is “Sorry the person you are trying to reach is unavailable” in a infinite loop. They aren’t leaving a voicemail. I am anxious and hopeful but is this just a coincidence or is this them?

I don’t know, but I have a feeling if they can’t tech you by phone they will email you.

when will they email me? LOL I HAS TAH KNOWS

Actually never mind I looked up the number online and it is some educational link looking for money or something…idk

Right. Not sure why a CMU call would come from Boston.

I can think of a reason – if someone is using his or her own cell phone, which happens to have a Boston area code. (I can think of a reason for pretty much anything. I should open a consulting business.)

412 is the Pittsburgh area code. Just sayin…good luck

My son just received his call. Forgive me for celebrating for a moment! Yessss!

Congrats!!!

Huge congratulations! You have a lot to celebrate. I think we were at UMich the same day as you. I’m sure this well makes up for all the waiting and hoping.

Congratulations!! So exciting for your son grayhairedman…

I can’t think of anything that could “top” that phone number popping up on your son’s or your phone !!! Huge Congrats

Congratulations grayhairedman!!

One of my students was just called as well! CarnegieMT2012 - I’ll have her touch base with you if that’s okay!

Congrats to the two! Were they acting or MT calls?
