Hey, I got a phone call from a Clark admissions officer a week or two ago asking where Clark was on my list of schools and where else I was applying to. That was all they wanted to know. It was kind of weird -- it was 9:00 a.m. on president's day and I was in trying on outfits for a fundraiser I was planning so I was talking around in wool pants and high heels. It just seemed like an odd reason for them to call. Did it happen to anyone else?

well...what was ur answer?

To be completely honest, it isn't really near the top of my list. I said that I like Clark a lot, I don't have a clear first choice right now, and the decision of where I end up going will probably be purely financial, as in who gives me the most aid. Do you think it was a fair question though?

They are trying to assess the likelihood that you will go there-probably to help them decide how much merit aid to offer you. Also to help them try to gauge how many they need to admit, based on how likely it is that those offered acceptance will actually attend. I am curious, too. Where else did you apply? My d has applied to clark, too. i feel like I don't have a strong sense of the school, but if i know where else clark applicants tend to apply, it might help to gauge the fit.

Well I applied to way too many places, really, because, like I said, it's a financial issue. I've heard that Clark shares a lot of applicants with American, so I told the guy that, and I also told him about BU, Northeastern, Emerson, Mt Holyoke, and Uconn. I also applied to U Chicago, GWU, Wellesley, and Syracuse. Where did your daughter apply?

D applied ato brandeis, b.u., skidmore, american, clark, goucher, and some in pacific nw where we live. Vey unlikely she'll get in at brandeis; questionable at B.U. Others i don't know-except she is in at goucher. We haven't visited goucher or american. Did you see american? Impressions?

I'm curious since your schools seem to include several that are known for communications, is this your area of interest? If so, how do you think clark is in that area? i knwo there is a major, communications and culture, but i don't know how good it is. When clark is mentioned, everyone talks about psych and geog, and sometimes science, but not really about writing or communications.

yeah I want to major in print journalism. I picked Clark because of the major but it probably would be higher on my list if I wanted to major in psychology...as far as I know it's not a particular strength.

You picked Clark because of their print journalism major??

I live near DC, and I see American U. often. It's smack in DC and for me, just looks like any part of DC. It's all depending on personal opinions. I love DC, so American would have been it for me if I wanted to stay near home. It's great for communications because there's Wash. Post and ABC News and all the great places right there.

eireann, have you heard from Syracuse yet? :) I applied there too-- for broadcasting.

I picked Clark because they offered a relatively similar major (communications and culture) and very few places offer a journalism major. It's not strong there though... DC would be lovely, and no I haven't haerd from Syracuse yet.
