Unfortunately, all the time slots were taken up for PHYS 2207 this semester so I was forced to sign up for the autotutorial class (PHYS 1101).
I’m not too fond of the autotutorial classes, so I want to take PHYS 2208 in the spring. Has anyone here ever switched from 1101 to 2208? If so, how big was the change? I know the autotutorial classes are algebra based while the lecture series is calculus based.
Add/Drop is going on now. Assuming you have had Calculus, ask your advisor about still trying to get a spot in Physics 2207 for this fall. Maybe one will open up or they could add a spot for you. At $70K per year, they should try hard to get you the class you want, especially if it’s related to your major. According to the Cornell Physics website, the autotutorial is not recommended for freshmen or Physics majors.
@MOMANDBOYSTWO Thanks for the advice, but I already talked to my advisors/professors. They wouldn’t budge , probably because of how large the class is. I’ll see how autotutorial goes this semester.
Back forever ago when I took Physics 1101, it was probably the WORST class I took at Cornell. My D, who is currently a Sr, took both 1101 & 1102, and just missed A+ by 1 point in both (she also is a Bio major). In discussing with her how it is now run, they have improved some of the past issues, so now it clearly is doable. You just have to have the self discipline to keep on it! If you are a Bio major, you certainly aren’t required to have Calculus based Physics… Good Luck!
