PHYS 5 Discussion v. Lectures

Hello, I am taking PHYS 5 (The Universe) and when I enrolled in the class the discussion times were TBA. The professor emailed me back saying that the discussion section times are Wednesdays 3:00-3:50. Unfortunately, this overlaps with one of my other classes. I was wondering how crucial it was to attend these discussion sections?

I really don't know what a discussion section is and how it is any different than a lecture; so if anyone could explain that to me that would be awesome. Are tests administered during discussion sections? Is it something I can miss if I am able to record whatever goes on in class?

your discussion session is not mandatory (i am 99.99999 sure that it is not mandatory). i have never been given a test nor heard of a test being administered during a discussion. they are either given in lecture (almost always) or on a specific night. you can miss your dicussion but you will miss out on info if your ta is good. you do not need to attend discussion in order to get an A in the class.
