Physical Education...

I have recently taken a look down the PE courses offered by Cornell, and was wondering what the proficiency implied by "Beginner" would typically mean. I know that it accepts people of all skills, but how good would someone be in, say, "Outdoor Beginner Tennis" or "Introduction to Skating"? I say so because if I were to enroll in the tennis one, I play for fun with my friends sometimes, but I'm not too good; and with the skating one, for example, I would have virtually no experience since I'm from the South. I'm just asking people's experience with these labels because I don't want to enroll with a pretty skilled group if I am a true beginner. Thanks.

You’ll be fine for Beginner Tennis. There might be more skilled players because people will generally just go with whichever fits their schedule, but the instructors are good about working with everyone. When I took intermediate, there were players of all levels. This was true even in advanced and recreational.

“Beginner” means that they assume that they’ll get some students with absolutely no experience with the activity.

Beginner implies no previous experience. With the skating class, there were folks who couldn’t even balance; although quite honestly, I will say that the people who did have balance got the most out of the class.
