Physics 2048/49 or 2053/54

So I'm really confused as to which sequence I should take.

I've had math through calc 3 and a physics class in high school--so I do have background to do either course. I know 48/49 is mainly for engineers and 53/54 is for pre-meds.

However, I don't know which is easier to get an A in, nor am I really clear on the differences between the two courses other than one uses derivatives and integrals and one doesn't. I have heard that 53/54 puts more emphasis on optics and light than does 48/49, but I don't know if it's true.

I had no problem with college calculus, and high school calculus the main reason I didn't do well was because I had a bad attitude.

So...advice?

Thanks.

What’s your major? IF you’re premed, you should probably take 53/54. Engineers have to take 48/49.

Some people I know who are premed did 48/54, since 48 has a reputation of being a little easier, and 49 a little harder.

If you’ve taken Calc 3 and done well, why not just take calc-based physics? I would think that 48/49 would only be harder for someone who didn’t have a strong calculus background. I’m taking 53/54 only because I haven’t taken calc since high school.
