hey guys
i was wondering if anyone knows the difference between:
physics 3 and physics 7;
psych 7 9 11
thanks in advance

I only know about physics. The 3 series is for health and bio majors; they take it because they usually need them for their MCATs for med school. The 7 series is for physical science and engineering majors. The 7 series is way harder because not only is there 3-4 quarters of it (depending on your major) but we learn calculus-based physics while the 3 series only learns basic physics. Hope that helps :)

while the 7 series is “harder”
A. there isnt any calculus in it (i had maybe 4 times i needed to use calc in the whole 4 classes…)
B. you have grade curves. Phys 3 is a straight scale (and the bar is apparently high)
C. phys 3 actually makes you do labs! with write ups and actually paying attention. phys 7 you just go in and do workbook pages and even if you dont do it the TA will end up helping you/doing it for you.
D. phys tends to be more serious bio majors. by the time they are juniors, they know how to study and tend to be more serious. contrast that with the freshmen in phys 7: more then a few drop out of engineering cause they cheat on the webassign and dont learn jack****.

i dont know whats on the mcat physics-material wise, so i duno what would give you the material you need to know/what classes you have to take to be prepared.

I took Physics 7A this quarter.

I thought while the lab(7LA) was fairly easy and even enjoyable with the exception of the final exam, the class was definitely a challenge. The midterm and final exams had averages of about 50-60%, and a 50-60 % was considered a C/C+ grade. There was a decent amount of calculus, but it did not go beyond basic derivatives and integration. Webassign problems were pretty doable, but there were some hard ones. The quizzes were straightforward as they were taken directly off the assigned problem sets. According to many people, the class resembled AP Physics C, as it covered mechanics. If you have a GOOD high school physics background, the class will not seem difficult. It really depends on the professor though in terms of how exams are structured and how hard they are, as in our class there were about 9 questions in the midterm and final, whereas some previous professors only had 4. Make sure to get a good TA for discussion.

I also had the same questions about psychology…

Physics 3 isn’t a straight scale naaaaah, depends on what teacher you get. And labs? Where the heck are you getting your information dude, that stuff is cake… That’s only for LB and LC. I don’t even think there is an LA. Even then it’s only 1.5 units… cmon… You gave that class a gross overestimation man. Bio majors can’t do physics if their life depended on it, their curve had the mean at <50% this quarter. Physics is hard for everyone, 3 vs 7 is incomparable in respect to competition.

With that said, don’t underestimate it either lol.

thanks for the replies so far;
they really help
im worried about taking physics 7a next quarter especially since i have NEVER taken any physics in high school. i was wondering i studied out of ap physics prep books would give me a stable background in physics. i am extremely worried since i am a engineering major as well.
thanks again
