Does anyone know anything about Gruner for 6B? Everyone's telling me to wait and take Arisaka...but I can't!! :(

Lectures were average, sometimes he can be hard to understand. Exams were straightforward, though, and pretty easy. Arisaka is a great lecturer, but his exams can be more concept based.

oooh thanks.

do you happen to know anything about Pham for LS3? I have him…no one knows anything about him.

I had Pham for LS 3 for the first time and I can say he’s very approachable. However, if you get really annoyed by Vietnamese accents, especially semi-thick ones, then I would avoid this professor because learning the material will be harder. Overall, he’s really nice guy and I’m getting a letter of rec from him, so it’s pretty neat. His midterms were really straight forward, you just need to study the slides and I bought the book, but never really used it.

I also had really good TA’s like Gerry and Sang, but I think they are TA’ing other classes. Anyway, I thought it was really enjoyable, getting past his thick accent, but he’s knowledgeable and straightforward. I hope this helps =) Also, just study on your own b/c most ls classes are like that anyway and go to office hours!!

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the layout of grades for his class? Would you rather take Tabancay or Pham or Johnson?

I don’t mind memorizing/understanding slides if I don’t have to open the book at all. I prefer this anyways.

Is Pham the kind of guy that would like it if students approached him during office hours?

Tabancay is teaching LS 3 in Session A, Pham in Session C, and Johnson in Fall 2009.

I have LS4 with Pham/McWhorter right now. Pham definitely has a VERY heavy vietnamese accent (and I’m vietnamese! so you would think that I’m used to it…) but you can still learn a lot from him. He’s very approachable and friendly. However, for ls4… the exams are difficult in the sense that you don’t get the full 2 hours for a midterm (which I REALLY needed) and partial credit is non-existent. However… this is for LS4 and not LS3. I would think that LS3 tests are more multiple-choice based so partial credit wouldn’t be much of an issue.
