physiology vs. biochem

alright... so im proud to say i got accepted to mcgill science. however, im still undeclared and need to pick a major! im kind of torn between physiology and biochemistry (and maybe a bit of anatomy and cell biology). any one have any suggestions or tips to help me make up my mind??
i know pretty much what i can do with biochem in the future, but what jobs open up with physiology?
thanks!

What do you want to do later? Medical school? Research?

If you got into Science, you won't have to worry much first year because your courses will be cookie cutter. As for the declaring a major; you can always decide to change it or whatever. You'll probably be in all the same classes as me come this September.

Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Calculus
Elective

i'm in anatomy but i've taken physiology and biochem courses and recommend physiology if you want more medical related jobs opening up for you while biochem is good for more scientific orientated jobs. However, in most science majors a BSc counts for little in these degrees and ultimately you will need to do a graduate degree for better prospects in them.

Hi,

I'm in my third year of biochemistry. It's pretty tough, most of the core courses are hard and require a lot of work. Known weedouts include: Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry 2, and Biochemistry 311 (I can't remember the name). If you want to go to medical school and want a higher GPA, stay away from Biochemistry unless you want to devote your life to studying and not have much time to anything else. Or unless you just like the kind of courses Biochemistry has...

Physiology isn't much easier from what I've heard. The 300 courses are kind of killer. Anatomy and Cell Biology have a lot of labs each semester, Biochemistry has the major ones (a lot of Org. Chem.) but it's manageable to an extent. You could try Immunology which shares some of the courses as Biochemistry.

my friend, who majors in physiology, says that the classes are kind of overbooked, as in the courses she wasnt able to take the courses she needed to fulfill her major until she complained to the admin about it. so physio is definitely really popular.
