piano/other lessons in college

i've played the flute for years, but i want to start learning the piano.

is there any school that offers piano lessons (or any music lessons in general) on the side without any academic influence?

my sister goes to tufts and i think i remember her saying there was a program where you can pay to receive instruction and it doesn't affect your gpa. it's just pure instruction for fun.

or maybe i'm thinking of another school...

I think that’s pretty common. You could check the music department website sections for schools you are interested in, but you will probably see a section on lessons.

University of Rochester offers music lessons to enrolled students. I believe they’re free, but you can check with the Rochester folks.

I see that you have posted on the USC forum - USC offers individual music lessons to non-music majors, including piano, through the Thornton School of Music. For non-majors the course is MPKS 300x, and it can be taken for 1 or 2 units per semester, and you can take it over and over up to 16 total units. If you prefer not to be graded you may select the credit/no credit option. There is an additional charge of $350/semester for the 1-unit course (1/2 hour private lesson per week), and a charge of $700 for the 2-unit course (1 hour private lesson per week.).

You may also take group piano lessons in Thornton as a non-major, and if it is within the 18 units included in standard tuition there would be no additional charge for the group lessons.

I’m sure that most schools, especially the liberal arts colleges, would offer these kinds of lessons for students.

The way to know for sure would be to e-mail or call a college and ask that very question…
