Hi, I am so torn over where to pick my residential area at UMass. I understand that each residential area has a different personality.

I want to be in a residential area where everyone is NOT preoccupied with drinking and partying. I want to be around friendly people who can have fun without a party. However, I want to party occassionally. I want people around me to be engaged in studies, but also want to go out and have fun. I would like people around me to be smart, diverse, and accepting. I myself am considered a smart "hipster." I also want a feeling of Community throughout where I live.

I am seriously considering Orchard Hill because it seems to be everything I want. However, Ohill is so far away from student life.
I love Southwest because it is so close to Berkshire (the dining center I will be at most of the time0 and the library.

Someone please help.

Central is full of “hipsters”.

That didn’t really answer my question @penguinz03

I’m considering Central and Orchard Hill which one is better? Are Central residents generally smarter? Which one has a friendlier atmosphere? Is Central a lot of partying? I want a residential hall that is studious and fun

Why will you be dining at Berkshire? If you live at Central Or O Hill, you have Franklin and my son who lives in Central said that is going to be renovated this summer.

Because Berkshire is the best dining hall by far. I ate at Franklin and the food is just Okay. Mostly vegan and vegetarian, definitely does not even come close to Berkshire.

Central is in the middle. Southwest= loud, Northeast and Ohill are more on the quiet side. So if you want something thats right in the middle go with Central.

Kent, right, but that is why Franklin is getting renovated.

From what my cousin has told me (current Junior), OHill is more of a “hippy/stoner” oriented living space. Plus, it’s way out of the way.

How hard is it to get around campus. If I live in Central or Ohill, is walking to Berkshire a hassle?

Living in Ohill can be a real pain. I’m not sure if you’ve visited the campus but the hill is a hassle to climb. I know how much your heart might be set on Berkshire, but you will definitely not walk out of your way 20 minutes in each direction. Worcester dinning hall is at the bottom of the hill so it’s convenient (though not as good as berk). Also, Central might not be your greatest option. It tends to attract a lot of smokers (not cigarettes). Over all, no matter where you live you will find the people you are looking for!

thank you @beng233 that was the most helpful comment yet!

Hey can you tell me what the North Apartments are like?
