Hi, I was wondering if picking a specific major when applying to a college is important. For the most part, I'm going in undecided for all my colleges. But for example, my supplemental essay for Cornell is going to probably hint that I'm going in as an English major, when in actuality I want to go into med school in the future. (Because I KNOW I can write a better essay with that subject) Do I have to write about my nonexistent interest in Science, or can I write about English when they ask about my interests and how I'm going to use their college of arts and sciences to "explore" them?

They understand that you’re only in high school, and that many people have no idea what they want to do in the future. Others switch multiple times during college. Heck, some people don’t even figure out until grad school or after!

Since you’re going in undeclared, they aren’t going to care if you don’t do what you hint at, just write a kick-ass essay haha. Do you even state anywhere that you’re going pre-med?

Thank you for the reply! And I never stated that I wanted to go premed, that’s why I was scared of ending up in the wrong major, not getting the classes I need, etc.

Oh! Don’t even worry about that! They can’t assume anything until you formally declare.
