Hello! I have a 4.0 unweighted and 4.5 weighted. I am not sure what classes to pick my senior year. I am interested in both Brown University and Yale. I am a part of a special 4 year program which caps the APs I take and doesn’t let me take all classes. I am not sure if these schools pay attention to senior classes.
The high school classes I am for sure going to take are:
EMT (2 periods non ap/honors)
AP Government+Politics
AP Lit
I will also be taking:
Precalc and Theatre honors at my local community college
These are my choices:
HS:
EMT (2 periods non ap/honors)
AP Government+Politics
AP Lit
Advanced Sports Med (non ap or honors)
CC:
PreCalc
Theatre Honors
Total of 7 classes (2 AP, 3 Regular, 2 cc)
OR
Computer Science AP
Advanced Journalism (non ap or honors)
EMT (2 periods non ap/honors)
AP Government+Politics
AP Lit
Along with the 2 cc courses
Total of 8 classes (3 AP, 2 Regular, 2 CC)
OR
Computer Science AP
Stats AP
EMT (2 periods non ap/honors)
AP Government+Politics
AP Lit
Along with the 2 cc courses
Total of 8 classes (4 AP, 2 academy, 2 CC
I don’t know the best option. However since you are applying to IVY league I would be sure you have the have 4 years of all five core courses (or levels for foreign language). I have no idea if EMT classes count as science or where you are on foreign language. If needed I would focus on those over say theater arts.
One course in two of these sciences is not the same as taking all three plus an AP course in one, which would be typical at the schools you mention. As would at least three years of a foreign language, though a lack of offering at your school may provide some relief from that expectation. Another of those three science classEs, rather than EMT, Journalism, or Sports Med could be of significant benefit.
And I can assure you that these schools, and all others, absolutely pay attention to your Senior year course selections.
You need to take physics (ap 1, honors, or regular)
Make SURE your GC will mention on your recommendation that you were scheduled for Latin 3 but it was discontinued otherwise that will be a big negative (also, prepare to have to take a foreign language in college).
What majors are you thinking of?
