is brown picky about sticking to the 500 word limit for the personal statement, and do you think for the other questions, ex. who interested you in brown, they would be picky about if you write like a paragraph when they only give you like 4 lines [typed on another piece of paper of corse]… basically… ho clsoe should i stick to the space guidelines…?

try to stick fairly close to the limit-type and paste it so it fits in the space allotted. There is another post about this and many said that they cut their essays down to stay relatively close to the limit. The Why Brown part seems to be averaging about 250 words and the Who Interested you part seems to be a few sentences.

are you writing your why and who out or typing and pasting it as I think AudiB4 said ?

i was gonna type and write 'see attatched'.. but typing and pasting seems more efficient.. i hope they fit hehe. i was getting carried away.. crossing my fingeres!

My S just applied ED and he typed and pasted (he asked students who were already freshmen-some wrote it out, some typed and pasted). It didn't seem to matter. But they all said not to go too over the space limitations. In other words, don't write 950 words for a 500 word essay.

but what about the activities one? mine is somewhere around 700-750 words.... but I didn't make a list.....just the essay.

I don't think there is any word limit on the activity question. My S made a 3 column thing-activity, hrs spent and a brief description of his involvement. He typed it out and sent that in on his typed paper-he wrote see attached on the actual application. If you prefer to write out an essay describing your activity/activities, I believe that is fine.

dont write 950 words for the 500 essay. But I mean if you do, then the essay shouldn't DRAG. It should be intresting for OTHERS to read. If it does drag, maybe you should limit it. My essay was about 950 words, and I got in. I asked my adcom later on about it, and she said she enjoyed reading it. Stick to the limit, if you go over a 100 words, and the essay is good with those words, keep them. They don't care much. I also typed mine and attached it to the application. For the other small questions, I mixed them up. I typed a lot of them, especially since i was doing the Engineering section, but I wrote out who intrested me.

about the who interested me...should I give a name or just say a brown undergraduate? what do you think?

thanks for everyones help. a quick question, just to clarify.. do you think that for the activity essay that doing just an activity sheet [very detailed lol] is enough or do i need to like write someting in essay form.. thanks in advance!

What is the best way to type and paste it on the paper app?

The activity question need not be an essay. A detailed annotated activity "resume" does just fine.

The who interested you in Brown is a few sentences.

For the resume, write "see attached".

For the personal essay, write "see attached" but do make it in the ballpark of 500 words and one typed page. Going over 600 words is not a good idea. They give a word amount for a reason so don't ignore it.

For short answer questions or even the Why Brown/major essay, you can type it and print it out and then cut it to fit the space on the paper application and use a glue stick to fit it on.

My D did all of the above and is a Brown student.

Good luck to you all.
Susan

does the resume have to be detailed? mine isnt... its like
italian club, president
varsity fencing, captain

etc.

is that ok?!!!

should the essays be double spaced?
