In case any prospectives are interested in Pitt Band - this highlight video pretty much sums it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOSYn6cmZdw&noredirect=1

well done. nice demonstration of school spirit. good job with the video and sound.

Yes, I was pretty impressed - was presented at the annual band recognition night last weekend. Ds (HS '11) has been in the band the past 3 yrs.

The band is seriously phenomenal. Whenever I go to a football game I always make sure to sit right next to the band section because it’s the most fun to interact with them :)

If you know, how did the band take to their new director this year?

From my ds, it was a little rough at first because everything was taken more seriously (pregame was drilled and drilled until it was perfect, that sort of thing). Bit of a different, less jovial vibe but the new director had a lot to prove this first season - big shoes to fill. Seems as the season progressed, everyone adjusted and ds seems pretty happy with the director enough so that he’s continued on into the concert band this spring.

thanks, and any word on the always planned but always in the future band facility?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No. It was supposed to be where the old soccer field is (since they got a new one recently) IIRC but then…nothing. So they’re still in the basement caves of Trees Hall next to never-used Racquetball courts and old pool equipment. It’s shameful.

track and field feels the same way you do. Both facilities were in their last campus master plan, but it is all about the $.

The 2014-5 highlights video is here! If you catch the guy who says near the beginning that he’s from NJ, that’s MY BOY!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMsWtMwlAiE&feature=em-subs_digest
Considering Pitt and would like to be in the marching band. Will have 4 years of marching band in high school and play the clarinet. I know that an audition is required and the band is open to non-music majors – do most interested students make the band?
For marching band, I haven’t heard of anyone not making the band. Symphonic band is a bit more limited due to space restrictions/instrument restrictions, but based on your background I think you’ll be fine.
@mollytd we have some people in band with less than 4 years of musical experience. Our music isn’t usually too hard, and as a freshman clarinet you’ll probably be on 2nd clarinet parts (I’ve literally probably practiced a total of 5 hours of music outside of band practice). I’m pretty sure if you’re willing to make the time commitment, our director will be more than happy to have you. (He’ll be even happier if you’re willing to switch to bass – he wants to up the numbers of that section.) Also btw I know like 0 people in band that are music majors (I don’t know too many people, but still…), so don’t fret about being surrounded by people that practice 7 hours a day.
Thanks so much. I am a junior now and hoping to come to Pitt for a summer tour and visit.
