Pitt Chancellor's Scholarship vs Emory Premed

I am currently deciding between taking the chancellor’s scholarship at Pitt and attending Emory for premed. The chancellor’s scholarship will cover full tuition, room and board, and meal plans. I’ll also get special advising. I got a $10,000 per year merit scholarship at Emory, which isn’t much. My parents can afford to pay for Emory, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it since med schools typically look at GPA, MCAT, and demonstrated medical interest more than the prestige of the school. I know Pitt is a great school with lots of research opportunities, but I always pictured myself attending a private school like Emory. I’m grateful to be in the position to make this decision, but I’m not sure if I’ll regret turning down a school as prestigious as Emory.

pitt for free? hard to turn that down. I love Emory, but for pre-med Pitt is very good too. unless you think you would be miserable in Pitt’s urban setting (and most people love it), Pitt gets my nod.

Emory is $75k per year; after a $10k scholarship, it is $65k.

So total of $260k. Compared to Pitt for approximately $0.

Medical school will probably cost $400k. Would you rather start your medical career with $400k debt after spending for Emory, or $140k debt by applying the $260k saved by going to Pitt toward medical school costs?

@joecollege44 @ucbalumnus Thank you both! I agree that it is probably wiser to save the money, especially because I don’t think Emory will offer me substantially more opportunities than Pitt. Hopefully I’ll love Pitt even though it doesn’t really match the idea of what I thought my college life would be like.

@bluecatfish i would recomend going to Emory! Especially if you can afford it and would enjoy yourself more

I can not conceive of a reason to pay $260K for one school over another. Pitt is a great school and you should go where you’ve been shown the love.

Thank you all for your help! I committed to Pitt, and I’m very excited. H2P!!
