Pitt Computer Science moving out of Dietrich College of Arts and Sciences

My daughter ha

My daughter has been accepted to Dietrich School of arts and sciences with an intended major to Computer Science. A new School of Computer and Information Sciences has been recently approved for Pitt and Computer Science is supposed to move to this school. We are concerned that our daughter will have to apply to be accepted next year to this school and we can not find any requirements for acceptance to this school on the Pitt website. We are confused and uneasy with this. Any info would be appreciated.

Pitt has a number of upper-level division schools, including the new School of Computing and Information. For all of these schools, students start out as freshman and sophomores in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. They will study in the Dietrich School for the beginning of their academic career and will have support from their advisor to ensure they are taking the proper prerequisites for the school they would like to transfer to. In their sophomore year, they can apply to transfer into SCI and complete their degree in that school. The process should be fairly simple for your daughter and she will have academic support to make it happen. If she has any questions about SCI in particular, their website is helpful and there is a contact email for questions on the front page: http://sci.pitt.edu/

Thanks for the information! Very helpful!

I went to the website and does not specify anything about a transfer out of Dietrich to theSchool of Computing and Information. We are concerned with is what the GPA requirements would be, exactly which courses would be required prior to applying for admission to the SCI etc.

@Greentravel, Since that information has not been posted yet, I would recommend you contact the SCI directly at the email address provided on their site. Hope that helps!
