My son’s app is complete per his app status. He applied to Swanson. Up until today, his app status showed as complete and “Swanson” in the program box. Today it changed to “Dietrich College of Arts and Sciences”. Does this mean he was denied Swanson but still being considered for general admission? If he is not admitted to Swanson, can he apply to roll in later if his Fresh/Soph grades are good or is it in Freshman year denied.
The same thing happened to me and someone in my class. The person in my class got admitted into Dietrich and can transfer into engineering the following year depending on his grades. So, yes. He is being considered for Dietrich.
Thank you. We did get a letter a few days ago explaining this exactly. Hoping he does get into Dietrich since he will have this option and although he leans toward engineering, he can still check out a few other options before committing.
I did not receive a letter. Did you receive a letter because he was admitted? or just explaining
He received a letter from Pitt explaining that he did not qualify for Swanson School of Engineering but was being considered for Dietrich and could still have the option to transfer into Swanson after his first year. . Today he got his acceptance to Dietrich.
I got accepted too, thanks and congrats!
My son was deferred when applying as Comp Sci major in School of Computing & Information. So far his mid-year grades look very good, but I am wondering if he doesn’t get in to SCI at mid-year if he can still apply to Dietrich. We think Pitt is a great fit but there’s a chance CS won’t be the right major for him…maybe he should have applied to Dietrich in the first place. I hadn’t realized how competitive this program has become.
Anyway, do folks know whether he would be automatically be evaluated for Dietrich if he’s not accepted to SCI?
Thanks in advance
@duquesnewhistle -I would tag @hailtopitt1787 to answer your question. They should reply quickly. My son was also deferred until Pitt reviews his first semester grades! Good luck to your son!
If your son doesn’t get accepted into SCI he might still be accepted into the Dietrich school. When this happens, students typically go through of few semesters at Dietrich and can then transfer to the school of their choice given that the academic requirements are met.
I hope this helps and best of luck to your son!

Thank you @hailtopitt1787! Do you know if consideration by Dietrich would happen automatically? Or would we need to take some action to have them consider it, should he not be accepted by SCI (though I really think he will!)
Thanks again.
@duquesnewhistle Yes, consideration would happen automatically. Rest assured, the committee is going to try to find the best academic fit for your son! He is welcome to contact our office with any questions upon receiving his decision.
